Okay did you make a new file and put the photo in a file bigger than the original photo size? I guess what I am asking is was your background bigger this way there was some place to put your text below? If not, just scale down your image or make your canvas size bigger and then you can move your text below. Just go to Image > Canvas size and make the dimensions bigger. Then use the move tool (there is a screen shot up above of what the move tool looks like) and move your text below. Let me know if you get stuck or need more help or that wasn't the problem. I have one more idea of what could be the problem, but wanted to see if this was it first.

Ahhhh.. I think I understand now, thank you! I did have to make the canvas a little bigger than the picture. Here is what I did really quick:

Very cute! Just one more tip for when you start making siggies on the main board. You will want to crop your siggy down so that there isn't all the extra white space.

Yes, you will need to upload it to a photo hosting site first. Can't wait to see it!

I can't see to get any of the downloads to show up in the Gimp program. I don't get layer effects under the Script-Fu menu and I don't get any of the fonts to come up in the Gimp menu. What am I missing? I use Windows XP, if that helps.

Thanks for all the great lessons, BTW!

Are you Moving the GIMP down loads to the proper GIMP files?

And with fonts are you unzipping them and moving them to the main Windows XP Fonts File?

Make sure you are dragging them out of the folder they are in when they unzipped so that it is directly in the Gimp scripts folder and not in a folder within it.

Thank you both! I don't know why what you wrote here makes any more sense than what I read in a different thread, but I got it to work now. Now I will give another shot at the siggie!

Ok here is my attempt with a photo of my son...

I still can't get the layer effect to work right. When I try to do the inside border it won't work and gives me an error message, but when I did the text border it worked fine. So I get a border around the photo and around the layer. I went in and erased the extra border.

OHH NOO!! How do I get it to post here as a pic? I uploaded it from my photobucket and used the HTML tag. I am unsure how to fix it.

Thank You,
Tricis

You'll need to copy the IMG code rather than HTML. It's the 3rd code under the pic.

It looks great Tricis! I think you did a really good job with it. I fixed your code for you, but Linsay is right you need the IMG code.

I believe you have to get the plug in for that in one of the other Gimp School threads. See the "Getting Started With Gimp" thread down a little further.

Yep, you have to get that from the Beveled and Outlined text lesson. Welcome to siggy school by the way!
