My story goes like this. I found out I was pregnant at about 5 weeks. We were happy and surprised because we were not trying. My first appointment was at 12 weeks and everything looked great. My second appointment I was measuring larger. I went for an ultrasound at 18 weeks. We found out we were pregnant with twin girls. My doctor sent me to an ob. I found out at 22 weeks that one had a diaphragmatic hernia. My ob sent me to a specialist and he confirmed the hernia. I had an amnio done at 26 weeks. This was the next scare since I had contractions during the amnio. They stopped when they took the needle out. It said that their was no other birth defects. We were so happy. It also confirmed the twin girls. I went to the doctor at 27 weeks and everything was great. The Saturday before I had the girls I went Christmas shopping. On Sunday my feet were huge. I stayed off my feet. That night I had such pain. I thought they were just kicking. I took a bath and started getting sick and having contractions. I went to the hospital. No contractions their. They thought I had a bug. Told me to go home take a sleeping pill and Tylenol. The next day went to the ob and everything was great. Tuesday night I had so much pressure. I took a bath and got sick and had contractions again. I drove myself to the hospital. This time they monitored contractions. They got them to stop. The next day went to my ultrasound where they found protein in my urine and high blood pressure. They sent me to the hospital. My hubby went home to get clothes and a few items. While he was gone they did blood tests and found out I had severe help syndrome. They were going to take the girls as soon as more blood arrived and my hubby arrived.
My husband was not allowed to be in the room. They were afraid I would bleed to death. My girls were born on 10-3-07 at 8 12 pm. I was allowed to see the girls that night. McKenzie weighed 2 pound 2 ounces and Madison weighed 1 pound 9 ounces. They were hooked up to so many tubes. We had a roller coaster of emotions. The hardest thing was leaving my girls in the hospital. McKenzie came home after 2 months and 2 days in the nicu. Madison is still their. She has had surgery to fix her hernia. She was the smallest baby ever to have this surgery since no other baby has every made it to surgery. She was just over 2 pounds when she had surgery. They told us many times she would not make it. They even told us that we needed to make a decision as to how much we wanted her to endure since she would not make it. Some of the doctors gave her 0% chance of survival. She is still here. She is now on c-pap. We are waiting for a feeding tube because of bad reflux. We are also waiting to see what her oxygen needs are. She will need oxygen to come home. She has has laser surgery for her eyes. She is a miracle. If you have your baby early don't give up. Madison developed pneumonia. Her one lung collapsed and the other was very bad. She lost her battle on March 5, 2008. we were very blessed to have her in our lives for 5 months and 2 days. She is now in Heaven watching over us. I don't regret any of the decisions we made for her. We loved her and will miss her for the rest of our lives.

McKenzie is almost 3 years old. She has no delays. She is still small for her age. She weighs just under 30 pounds. She is about 25% for height and 10% for weight on the growth chart. Thanks for thinking of us. I have to remind myself what a miracle she is and what a miracle Madison was to have stayed with us for 5 months and 2 days.
