so my poor boyfriend.. they told him he needed a consult appt before he actually gave the sample.. so he thought "ok they need paperwork for insurance and then tell me to make another appt" nope.. he had to give the sample that day! He was so uncomfortable that he wasnt able to give them much of a sample.. Here are the results we got back tho..

1.2 million (dr said normal is about 1.5 million)
Morphology 16% (dr said normal is about 25%)
volume 22% (dr said normal is about 14% lol)
concentration was good

any insight on these numbers?? we dont really know what they all mean..

TIA

Well im not sure how your clinic ran these numbers... but somethings off. They shouldnt be that low and 1.5 is not normal under any circumstance. (unless they used some odd system to get to those numbers... but it aint right.)

1.2 million is LOW. Even if its a total count, or a per mL count -- its VERY low. Normal 40 million total or 20 million per mL. Some insight -- my DF has 1.5 million total or 375,000 per mL. Which is horribly poor and why we need IVF.

Morphology of 16% is great! Morphology numbers most docs like to see over 12%. Some insight -- my DF has a morphology of 1%. (Baaaad)

Volume.. not sure... volume isnt usually measured in a precent, its measured in an mL. If you mean motility (the movement) that number should be great then 50%. My DF's volume was 3.5 which is great and his motility was 14% (Horrible!) Any volume over 2.0mL is normal. Anything less indicates an issue.

I would call the doctor back again and double check how he ran the test. Somethings not right. 1.5 is not normal in any sense unless they used some different odd system to get to those numbers. The only thing i could think of that would yield a 1.2 million and 1.5 million being normal is post-ejaculatory urine.

*hugs* GL!

ETA: You can call the clinic and request they send you the medical records. Then you can see exactly wth they did.

So I am def going to have them send a copy.. because Chris has me all confused.. they wouldnt give me the info since we arent married.. so when chris wrote it down it doesnt make any sense!

He said that 1.2 mL is what he meant.. not million maybe that is the volume.. but then what the heck is the 22% he told me!? ugh motility maybe?? but he said the dr said 22% was really good and average is only 14%

I'm so confused!

Thanks for your help Sam!

Sam's my numbers girl. All I know is Mike went from literally azospermic {I think? That's the word-- he was medically sterile} to 5.9 million in 2 years with testosterone shots and Clomid. Our chances still aren't wonderful, but obviously increased!

You know what I'd do? Get a copy of the report. Then you will be able to see for yourself exactly what everything was.

Here is what the normal ranges were from my Dh's SA.

Volume - 2 ml or more
sperm concentration - 20 million/ml or more
motility - 50% or more
strict morphology - 14% or more

the guy he spoke to must have been retarded because only 1 of Chris' numbers is above normal.. and that is morphology! He is at 16%.. The guy told him everything looked great... He is calling first thing monday morning to have them send him a copy of his test results..

A little off topic but since it came about because we got his results i had to share..

We are visiting my best friend and her 2 year old this week in NC and yesterday we were all getting in the car getting ready to go mini golfing and Chris was holding my friends son and putting him in the car seat and all of a sudden Chris got teary eyed and said "it just hit me.. I am going to get to be a daddy soon." of course then I got teary eyed.. It was the cutest thing, he is now excited!
