Does anyone know if it is ok for me to take Mucinex D? I called my OB to ask today but he returned my call when I was napping and by the time I woke up, it was after hours. I've got a case of the crud, ie sinus/chest congestion, and am wanting to take something to break this stuff up.

Thanks, ladies!!

sudaphed and guaifenesen I THINK are the two ingredients in that. Those are safe. You can also look online there are lists of safe medications everywhere. Just go by the active ingrediants on the box, not the brand name.

Its a category C drug.
Meaning----
Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the fetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women, or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

Its in the we don't know category in other words-not proven safe for humans but shown some issues in animals. You want Category A or B. You can't take category D or X. Category C is that weird one in the middle that we don't really like because we can't really tell you if its safe.
If it was me I would skip it.

I know I can't take anything with "D" in it (like claritin D) because the lady at the pharmacy told me that it raises your blood pressure, and I certainly don't need to do that.

I got a case of the crud a while ago and I was just miserable for two weeks!

since when are those on the C list??? They are listed as safe in all the pregnancy books as separate ingredients! But I guess listen to the preggos.
Is it because the combined med brand Mucinex is still new on the market? Is there a new study I don't know about?

I looked it up here (www.safefetus.com) it gives it a C (yes it is the combo that got the C-so I don't know if there is something else in it). (this is the site my midwife gave me)
http://www.safefetus.com/DrugDetail.asp?Dr...mp;TradeId=5631
I would probably say then to call any pharmacist and ask what category it is (no clues who's info is more up to date-and lord knows they change LOL)

I just think its weird. It seems like sudafed is the offending ingredient, but all the preggers books (great expectations, what to expect etc) say it's safe.
