Now I think I have hand-foot-mouth disease

After 2 moms at work said their kids were diagnosed with it, I went home to check my mouth. Sure enough, I have this gross blister in the back of my throat. I didn't have a fever so I don't understand how this happened. And since I have "strep" (starting doubt the ER doctors) then why would a blister show up 3 days after taking the antibiotics?! UGH now I'm waiting to see if I get them all over my body.

Supposedly there is nothing you can do but let the virus take it's course. But I'm worried about the baby. My aunt who is an RN is saying that if I keep taking my meds, the baby should be fine. Because if I don't I may contract an infection on top of the virus. I'm seeing my MD tomorrow to find out what is wrong with me, and I guess I'll call to mention it to my OB when I get results.

My throat feels like it's on fire and I feel so disgusted

Aiden just had it! and OMG did it suck!

There is no medicine for it.. the only thing the dr said that might help was a mix of benadryl and malox...

((we found that listerine ((watered down for him of course)) worked wonders!!!

maybe you can try that!

Sorry hun! feel better!!!

If you start getting headaches AND a stiff neck -GO TO THE ER! The er doctor would never put HMFD and you in the same category for a sore thoat (unless they knew where you worked) because its very rare in people over the age of 10 yrs old. You will not have a temp if your on antibiotics. But if its not strep antibiotics can't do anything for a viral infection. Best thing to do----water, tylenol, and go get some ambasol (the stuff that numbs sores in your mouth--get the baby kind its safest while preggers) and put that on any sores you may get that hurt. I can't find ANYTHING on HMFD and pregnancy---like I said its rare in adults so I'm guessing the chances of getting while pregnant is like winning a lottery.
Make sure you are VERY strict about washing your hands and things around your house to prevent your honey from getting it if he hasn't already had it. Its most contagious in the first week so i'm guessing your past that already. And they need to SCRUB down your work place if more then one of you have gotten it, a couple times even! Plus I would talk to your boss---thats crap that some kid had an infectious disease several weeks ago and you all just found out, either parents need to be informed they have to share that info or something has to change with it. If that would have been something we know is an issue with pregnancy you could have been seriously at risk. Please have some words with them!

I hope it doesn't get to bad and it goes away quickly. If I do manage to find something about it an pregnancy I will let you know.

Well I'm the one that thinks it may be HFMD because of all the exposure to the kids. I spoke to my boss yesterday and other than cleaning and removing the 2 confirmed cases, there isn't much we can do about it but look out for others. Which means I get to spend naptime everyday this week bleaching the crap out of everything. I'm also starting to worry because I think my M/S will be kicking in soon. I've been sick to my stomach off and on but this morning I felt I needed to actually stand over the toilet cause I thought it was coming! And I'm thinking acid can't be good for little blisters in my throat.

As for DH, he told me last night his throat was very sore. I told him to look out for the sores.

So the doc said I don't have HFMD!! What a relief. But I do have a virus, hence the blister. She also said to keep taking the antibiotics cause it's possible I still have the strep. She also reassured me that it will not harmt eh baby, it just has to make it's course.

I am so happy about this news, even though my throat is killing me!
