You know how for the LONGEST time I have been complaining how my AF's are SO painful and I bleed A LOT the first 24 hours? (and how my regular GYN dismissed it?)

Well, yesterday, I had my watersonogram (They put saline into your uterus to see inside) and they found a half-dollar sized polyp which has been what has been what is giving me ALL this pain and heavy bleeding (). You cant be cleared for IVF with a polyp so they have to remove it with a hysteroscopy procedure first -- They use a camera and things and go through the cervix to remove the polyp. I'll be asleep and all (Thailand Angela you said Versad right??) but it can be painful after. My doc was talking of maybe doing D&C so... im annoyed. Im annoyed because my regular GYN SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THIS 2 YEARS AGO WHEN I FIRST STARTED COMPLANING. I wouldnt be in a position now where i have to get this done 2 days before i start my new job. I cant take off anytime from school or work, so its a big inconvienance for me to have to drop everything and do it tomorrow.

I had my pre-op bloodwork this morning. I woke up at 8:40. Called the office to see if they could do my sugery friday. By 9am I was at the office for bloodwork and they didnt take me back until 9:40. I was LIVID.

Ontop of that, i am annoyed that my RE doesnt wanna retest the rest of my thyroid. He is just throwing me on Synthyrod. I KNOW i dont have hypothyroidism and its my cyst thats causing the issues, so i wont be taking it.

Yep Versad is the drug thats like getting 5 margaritas in your blood flow! You don't remember what they are doing but your kind of awake and loopy.
Are they going to suck out the cyst while their up there? I would MAKE them redo your thyroid test if they do---but I think the synthroid wouldn't hurt you....I still think you may have a gland issue. Plus if they tell you to take some thing and you lie (they can do blood test to prove you didn't) couldn't you lose your funding? I would hate to have that happen, and who knows-it may help you feel better! I don't know of a big connection between ovarian cyst and thyroid levels--ask your doctor to explain why he doesn't think its that.....if you ever don't like a answer a doctor gives you--have them explain WHY at least---and until you understand what they are saying LOL. This is a big problem in healthcare...he may have a good reason you SHOULD take it.

Angela --

Versad it is!

He wants me on it (synthroid) cause they are gonna suck out the cyst when they do the retrieval. He said he doesnt wanna put anymore trauma on my body then is neccisary right now since i am getting over a nasty cold. There is correlation between TSH & Estridol levels and ovarian cysts. When both are "off" so to speak and you have an ovarian cyst -- you have your answer. My E2 and TSH levels are high -- and i have a cyst. Answers right there. Once they drain the cyst, I will come off synthroid and THEN they are going to redo the bloodwork. Seems funny to me.

*shrug*

I do plan on telling him tomorrow I want the rest of my thyroid tested first. I dont feel comfortable taking a pill that i might not even really need, you know? If everything else is fine, then I dont need the pill. If everything else is off then obviously there is an issue that needs to get corrected and we'll deal with it then.

Well, I think it is pretty neato that you got your surgery scheduled for the very next day after finding the problem. You could always reschedule it if doing it now is such a problem.

So your RE only pulled your TSH level? If your thyroid problem is caused by a cyst, that would be great. Take away the cyst, take away the problem. But just because you don't have some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism, doesn't mean you don't have it. I remember reading something you wrote and you listed the syptoms you don't have. Well, I don't have those either and I have hypothyroidism. I wasn't even overweight before Istarted my meds. So I think it is great you will be pushing to get the rest of your thyroid panel done.

You'll be in my T&P for sure!! Good luck with everything and I hope you can make those Drs. earn their $$ and relieve some stress in you by 1. listening to the patient, 2. listening to the patient, 3. treating the patient, amen.

ETA: I said "relive" instead of "relieve" that would suck, wouldn't it!?

The only symptom i really have is bittle hair and nails, and intolerance to cold (but i have rhynoids phenomenon from lupus.... so that really doesnt count). I am always fatigued but that is normal for me because i dont have a comfortable bed (and DF is a covers hog!)

The RE tested my TSH during routine bloodwork and saw it was elevated. Reapted it 3 weeks later and it was even higher. They have not tested anything else yet. T4 or otherwise. SO. I want the rest checked out first. Because if the rest of the numbers are normal, then its the cyst and theres no reason to take meds. If they are abnormal, then i do have hypothyroidism and i'll take the meds for the rest of my life. It wouldnt surprise me if i did have a thyroid issue, my regular doc has suspected so for many years, but i dont want to take a drug when "theres a chance" i have it. I want to make SURE i have it. Im not a big taker of drugs. I only take them when and if i need to. After my eye surgury, i was in PAIN for days.. i mean agony and i didnt take any painkillers lol.

Sooooo when i see him tomorrow, i am going to let him know i am uncomfortable taking the meds without testing my thyroid first. So monday evening, i'll go do that (Get retested). I'll know well before we start the IVF if i have it or not.

LOL Amy -- No.. not a hysterectomy! Although i always said after i was done having kids i wanted to get one to prevent all the monthly pains. If removing this polyp gets rid of the pains, i'll gladly keep my insides.

Thanks for everyones T&P's. As soon as i get home tomorrow, i will update you all. (Hopefully i'll be home by 1pm eastern - I go in at 8:45 and i assume i'll be in surgery around 10:30)

Good luck Sam, I am sure it will go fine! And that med is the one I had when I had an in office D&C in 2002, I was soooo loopy, lol, but I was glad because I had just had a miscarriage and didn't want to be asleep or awake. And is the reason they say you're more fertile after a D&C because it can remove polyps? I remember having the D&C in 2002 and my doctor kept saying he expected me to get pregnant right away, as he did a good job scraping my uterus, and I did get pregnant 2 cycles later with DD.

I still can't get over how similar our bodies are, I was also tested for the thyroid issues, but didn't have them. I did have slightly elevated TSH & estridol levels, as well as a cyst, but it was not related to my thyroid at all, just a coincidence. Hopefully that's the case for you, I would feel funny taking meds I might not need too.
