Be careful what you wish for! Holy poo Ike is quite a doosey! They are saying it will hit as either a strong cat 3 or weak cat 4. That's just insane. And it is ginormous.

My disclaimer: Please don't think I am wishing destruction on anyone, I just love to watch storms; I think they are amazing. So, it is not the destruction I want to see, just the nature--the wind, the rain, etc. Does that make me easily entertained?

SO has to evacuate with his company. They will make provisions for me as well, but I don't think I wanna leave. I want to see the storm! I've waited so long for a good storm. I just got off the phone with my dad and he would not give up asking me to promise I would evacuate. Gotta love him. SO is telling me he will knock me out and drag me with him if he has to.

I live in H o u s t o n (sorry, don't want it to show up in a search). So, I'm supposed to be on the dirty side of the thing when it hits and it will make a northern turn around us, so it will keep me on the dirty side as it wraps around the southern end of houston around to the western end. I'm pretty excited!

Take pictures! I love watching storms also but we don't get much here. Maybe twice a year we'll get wind strong enough to knock a few trees down but thats it. I don't wish destruction on anyone either it's just that storms can be so neat to watch.

I think SO is pouting. He's all pissy because I'm not coming. He's packing right now. I hate that he is leaving and that I have to ride it out on my own, but I just can't miss this.

Ack, I am in the same area as you Krista! I am one nervous woman between my u/s tomorrow afternoon and now having to worry about a hurricane too. We will probably ride it out, but if they think it's a Cat 4 and going to make a hit directly on us, we may evacuate. We're 40 miles off the coast and I don't want to stay if the wind would be potentially bad enough to rip off our roof.

My whole family lives in H o u s t o n and the surrounding areas! I'm hoping they get out of there, and I think you should too!! Its supposed to be a really bad one!! I'm crossing my fingers it will slow down a bit! And also if you do evacuate make sure to have tons of gas and water!!!

BTW!!!! Next time I go visit my family me you and Shannon need to get together and have a super awesome JM WTTC grad party B) !!!

Well, I live in Ft. Worth, and it's supposed to still be a strong tropical storm by the time it gets up here! So, we'll probably have some wind and pretty good storms too. I'm excited about getting a good storm too! I love storms! I do hope that everyone stays safe and that there is as little damage as possible!

I love storms, but we never have any good ones like you girls do in the US !!!

We missed one last year we went to florida and then to the gulf, had been home a week and there was a storm then !!

I too love the raw power that storms and other natural disaster have and they are amazing. However, I really hate the destruction that's caused by them.

I loveeee the drama of storms! I'm so jealous because my parents are at our beach condo right now in Gulf Shores... and this morning my mom sent me a video clip on the phone of waves coming up over the boardwalk. I'm going to try to send it to my email and upload it to photobucket and show ya'll!

Okay here is the video clip and a couple of pictures. My parents condo is in gulf shores. Normally, the ocean line is about 50 feet off of the boardwalk. This morning, the waves are coming up to the board walk, up the 3 (or 4? can't remember) stairs and onto it.

Well, SO is gone... he had to evacuate with his company, so I'm all by myself! I might go to a friend's house just so I'm not alone, but I don't know.


Shannon (in H o u s t o n) - Stay safe! I read about your ultrasound... I'm really sorry! Are you in an evacuation area? You are awfully close to the coast to not be in one. I'm kinda mad at my mom because she is in a mandatory evacuation area and she isn't leaving!

Krista - nope I am not in an evacuation zone. Our house is at 60 feet above sea level so water is not an issue. Wind will be high but we don't have any big trees around us to fall on our house.

We are 90% sure we are staying here. (Unless they say tomorrow morning it's like a Cat 4 or something crazy).

Our walk in closet is pretty big and it is the only room in our house with no windows so we will be staying in there while the storm passes!

I am a little nervous about the storm but I remind myself I need to stay calm for the baby.

I plan to run an extension cord into the closet for our laptops and for as long as our power stays on, I may start a topic with live hurricane updates!

I'm not in an evacuation zone either. My mom's county issued a mandatory evacuation and she isn't leaving! She doesn't even want to come to my apartment! I think I get my love of storms from her. She isn't right on the coast, but if she experiences some flooding, she has two stories in her house to use to run from water. Still, I'm not too happy with her right now. I think she just wants to stay because she has a generator.

All of these hurricanes have just meant RAIN RAIN RAIN for us in Buffalo...

I didn't even think about the fact that it is going to come through overnight... so, that might make pics kinda hard unfortunately! I don't know about Shannon, but I'm definitely going to try to get some.

I feel bad for Galveston, it seems the whole island is going to be covered in water. They are already under a lot of water and it hasn't even hit yet. I don't even think it is raining there yet! It doesn't look like it from the video on tv, but I could be wrong. I haven't seen the actual weather report yet.

Thanks ladies, I'm definitely trying to stay safe. Although SO is not here, we have a friend in the apartment complex that is here, and I can call him if I have an emergency; so, I'm not technically all by.

I have lots of backup water. All my pots and pans are full as well as my bathtub, so I think all is well. I bought some redbull so I can stay awake all night and watch the storm!
