Ok cloth diaper moms in the grad group. Lets see pictures of your favorite fluffy butts! (please included what they have on)
And please answer some questions for us wannabe's.....
1. Whats your favorite type of diaper (remember saying AIOs or whatever doesn't make since to us yet so you have to explain them a little, plus type of material).
2. Whats your favorite BRAND of diaper and why, and Fav COVER?
3. Any diapers you don't like?
4. What would you recommend for a good starter stash for us who are preggers?
5. How do you wash them?
6. Anyone having issues with family and them?
7. Anything else you want to share with us newbies?
8. Snappies or pins?
(add on questions ladies!)

I posted pics recently on another post here...
1. Whats your favorite type of diaper (remember saying AIOs or whatever doesn't make since to us yet so you have to explain them a little, plus type of material). We only use prefolds and covers. And we have several hemp doublers for naps and long car trips.
2. Whats your favorite BRAND of diaper and why, and Fav COVER? We only use Bummis and we LOVE them! We have the regular Bummis Super Whisper Wrap and Bummis Super Brite. I Like the Super Brites better because they aren't cloth on the inside and it's easier to wipe clean in between washings (unless there's poop on it). They do fit a little smaller than the Whisper Wraps but it's not a big deal. I think the Thirsties covers are very similar to the Super Brites and I've heard good things about them too.
3. Any diapers you don't like? We haven't tried anything else yet, we're really happy with what we have.
4. What would you recommend for a good starter stash for us who are preggers? Not really sure, I'm *fairly* new to CD myself (only been doing it for about 3 months). I would use prefolds and covers for newborns though--even though Lochy only nurses about 5 times a day his poops are still pretty loose from the breastmilk and fastening the prefolds really helps to contain the mess. We have 3 dozen diapers and 10 covers (started out CDing the two boys) so we have more than we really need right now. And 3 snappis.
5. How do you wash them?
First cycle: 1/4 cup Tide original (powder)--cold wash, cold rinse, 2 rinses
Second cycle: 1/4 cup Tide original (powder)--hot wash, cold rinse, 2 rinses
Third cycle: no detergent--warm wash, warm rinse, 2 rinses
6. Anyone having issues with family and them? not really. my mil doesn't know how to use them so she generally waits for me or puts a disposable on if we're not home
7. Anything else you want to share with us newbies? it's a lot of trial and error and we're still working out kinks. Lochy has very sensitive skin and tends to rash more often with cloth since the urine sits right on his skin. Very frequent changes (like every hour, hour and a half) and the extra wash cycle has helped though. And for overnight we do have to use a disposable--I can't realistically change him every hour or two during the night and that's when he nurses most.
8. Snappies or pins? SNAPPIS!!!!! Love the snappis!

1. Whats your favorite type of diaper (remember saying AIOs or whatever doesn't make since to us yet so you have to explain them a little, plus type of material).
I really love fitteds and my favorite fitted material is cotton velour - very soft and VERY absorbent.

2. Whats your favorite BRAND of diaper and why, and Fav COVER?
I love the Clovers fitteds. Thirsties makes a great cover for babies that won't strip out of them (since they are velcro). Once baby can strip off velcro, I love TK Cuddler covers.

3. Any diapers you don't like?
I really wasn't a fan of Mommy's Touch, especially their all-in-ones. The fit was wonky and the absorbency was mediocre at best.

4. What would you recommend for a good starter stash for us who are preggers?
I would definitely recommend prefolds (Little Lions, GMD), covers (Thirsties, Proraps Classic), and fitteds for daddy, family members, and babysitters (Kissaluvs, Swaddlebees, Mother-Ease).

5. How do you wash them?
Cold soak, nothing added
Hot wash with full-strength Tide powder detergent (the powder doesn't cause as many suds as the liquid)
Cold rinse, nothing added
Hot wash, nothing added
Cold rinse, nothing added
If no bubbles, throw everything in the dryer. If there are suds, keep rinsing until gone.

6. Anyone having issues with family and them?
There was some hesitation at first but once everyone saw how easy it was, no more comments from the peanut gallery.

7. Anything else you want to share with us newbies?
Try and keep two things in mind:
1. Be patient. No one found their perfect stash or routine in one day, sometimes it takes a little trial and error.
2. CDing isn't an all or nothing game. We started out just CDing during the day at home, then gradually over night, and then gradually outside of the house. It helped to build up my confidence bit by bit so I didn't get frustrated and give up.

8. Snappies or pins?
I haven't used prefolds yet, but I do have Snappis for my newborn stash. Keep in mind that Snappis will not work on all prefold fabrics. If you get bamboo (fleece or velour) prefolds, you will have to pin.

1. Whats your favorite type of diaper

I'm a pocket diaper kind of girl The outer material is waterproof and the inside is all soft, you put a cloth liner inside to absorb wetness. I like them because you can buy thicker liners or double up at night time.

2. Whats your favorite BRAND of diaper and why, and Fav COVER?

Right now I have Bum Genius one size and Happy Heiny one size, and I like them both. Good thing is that they fit babies about 7-35 lbs so you can use them from newborn-toddler. The only problem is that Aden can get them OFF easily now that she's older! (velcro closures just like a disposable)

3. Any diapers you don't like?

I tried prefolds and covers (the old fashioned way) with snappies, and I did NOT like them. It seemed like I had to change her all the time, the diapers sagged because they got heavy. But a lot of moms love them, I think it's just a personal preference.

4. What would you recommend for a good starter stash for us who are preggers?

I would recommend an easy, daddy friendly, daycare friendly brand like Bum Genius, Happy Heinys, or Fuzzi Bunz because they have snaps and the baby can't get them off But Fuzzi Bunz come in sizes like small/med/large, although the medium will fit for a LONG time. I got Aden a medium when she was 4 months old and it still fits her at 19 months, not even on the biggest snap setting! All those diapers are well made and will last you. Also I would have at least 24 diapers for a newborn, and with that you might be washing every day or every other day. But as they grow older they won't need to be changed as much.

5. How do you wash them?

For poopy diapers I get most of the poop off before I put them in. I do two short rinse cycles with just water before I do the actual wash. Then I do a wash with the hot/cold setting, and I use Charlie's natural soap (powdered) and maybe a tablespoon or two of bleach. Not hard at all!

6. Anyone having issues with family and them?

Nope, not at all. Most people I have talked to think they're awesome once they see that they've come a long way from the old fashioned prefolds and flats.

7. Anything else you want to share with us newbies?

If you are preggo, totally take the opportunity to buy a couple dipes each month! If I had known about these awesome cloth diapers last time I was pregnant I totally would have built up a stash before Aden was born.

My fave online stores are www.cottonbabies.com for Bum Genius
www.wildflowerdiapers.com for Happy Heinys

Also, the more you buy the more of a discount you get. If you buy a 6 pack or a 12 pack they will be cheaper than buying them single.

8. Snappies or pins?

I used Snappis with the prefolds and they worked pretty well, I wouldn't want to use pins.

One more thing I forgot to add...if you are putting your kid in daycare, ASK them to use the cloth dipes!

Aden goes to a home daycare, and I took some BGs over there as an example and asked her if she would be okay with it, she was really excited about it!

Just wanted to add that I REALLY wanted to go the Bum Genius route but we were very strapped for cash and the prefolds and covers were the most economical for us. I do agree that they sag when they get very wet.
