Anyone know anything about this. Prolactin is good in pregnancy but other times. High prolactin can inhibit ovulation and lower progesterone.

I'm having nipple discharge which is a sign of high prolactin. I'm wondering if I have my answer/source of low progesterone. Vitex is supposed to LOWER prolactin, but this month I ovulated 4 days late and am leaking from my nipples

Ok doing more research-- its connected to late ovulation (this month), fluxuation in periods (see my charts) low progesterone and luteal phase deficiency.

Its caused by hypothyroid (which I suspected last year i had but tests said no) and tumors on the pituitary

Sounds like you may have an answer. I know prolactin is what is released when you breastfeed and causes breastfeeding Moms to not ovulate, have irregular cycles when they do return, and sometimes have short luteal phases. I never knew it was something that could affect you at other times.

Definitely something I'd check on if I were you.

ETA: Definitely odd that your nipples are leaking. That would freak me out (well not now but you know what I mean).

I had it happen about a year ago and thought it was no big deal-- actually kinda cool cause I understood how breastfeeding worked, how the fluid came out finally.
Today its slightly clear but there is some gray and some brown/slight slight blood. Online stuff says the color is actually no big deal.

This cycle has been way way out of whack.

I'm guessing I'm out this cycle too with something like this, especially if it lowers progesterone.

My MIL has thyroid issues and she says the only sure-fire test is to take basal body temps. Now that you mentioned it, your temps do seem rather in the low range--it's hard to tell sometimes because of how FF does the charts, but anything lower than 97.0 should "fall off the chart", so that should be your bottom, then usually 98.6 is the top, so if you picture your temps in a graph of those temps, your temps are all in the lower part of the scale. Bring it up with your doctor!

Definitely bring it up to your doctor along with all the other symptoms and signs......you know your body best and the docs can only do things for you based on what you are telling them! Good luck Lauren - I really wanna see you get your BFP!

Well, I had high prolactin and I have hypothyroidism and PCOS. I would be sure to get your TSH retested and make sure it is around a 1 which is where it needs to be for conception. Any testing for PCOS should have included testing your prolactin levels, as well as your LH:FSH ratio. Do you remember what your was when you were tested before?

The nipple leaking sounds strange though, so be sure to get that checked out with the doc. I have no idea what other things could cause high prolactin since I only really know a little something about those 2 conditions. Good thing you doc appt is coming up anyways. I hope the acupuncture works for you too! I was reading an article on soulcysters about the effectiveness of acupuncture on getting women with PCOS to ovulate and it sounds very promising.

My nipples sometimes leak too, but my prolactin levels were normal in the same month I noticed leaking. They have leaked ever since the first time I was pregnant, so I thought it was hormonal. I never brought it up with my doctor, but maybe I should.
