For those of you who have read my previous post, my mother-in-law came to stay with us for the weekend and that's when we told her about the pregnancy. Also, Friday was the day we had our first prenatal appointment at our new OBGYN. The weekend was wonderful, but didn't have such a good start on Friday...I woke up Friday morning at 6:45 to get ready for our appointment at 8:45, but at around 7:30 I get a call from the office saying that the doctor had to go into surgery and that the appointment would have to be rescheduled for 11:00. So normally, I wouldn't think a difference of 2 hours was a big deal, but in this case it meant that my husband couldn't make it to the appointment because he had to go to an important school event (he is earning his Masters). I don't know whether it was my pregnancy hormones, but I got so upset I started bawling and crying a flood of tears. I was almost hysterical, and when I went to take a shower to calm myself down I slipped two times and fell once. Of course, I was terrified of the fall, but luckily I landed on my backside and hopefully my little bean was well protected. I sat there bawling after the fall, and my husband tried to get me out of the shower. What a strange morning it was!
But my husband at least walked me to the OBGYN with me, even though it was rainy and a little hilly. It was a 20 minute walk, which isn't a big deal. Being alone in the office, however, I was terrified, I really wished that my husband was there with me, and I know how much he loves seeing the ultrasounds. But once I met with the doctor, I was really happy because she was so nice and understanding...she saw by my face how terrified I was, and she said that even though they usually don't do an ultrasound until 12 weeks, she could give me an ultrasound that day if the doppler didn't pick up the heartbeat. And sure enough, the doppler didn't pick up the heartbeat (she said that at 10 weeks, it was still early for the doppler)...but thank goodness she did the ultrasound, because we got another picture of our little bean and saw that the heart was beating strong. What was awesome is that she gave me a HUGE goody bag....filled with all of these baby magazines, a book, a pregnancy journal, prenatal samples, and information about the hospital and future visits. She still also scheduled me for the 12-week ultrasound, so I will get another one in less than 2 weeks...but the next one won't be until 20 weeks, but I'm still so thankful that she gave me an ultrasound this time for my peace of mind.
And then, of course, my mother-in-law came later that evening and we told her the news in a restaurant. What is funny is that she seemed happy about the baby, but she seemed absolutely THRILLED about the nursery...she started talking about how she wanted to help me decorate the nursery and how she wanted to sew blankets, pillows, and curtains. I thought that she was very cute, but I didn't realize how serious she was, because almost as soon as we got to my home she started measuring the room that will be the nursery, and started saying, "okay, the crib can go there, the changing table can go there..." She then went online and started looking at crib dimensions to see how they would fit in the room, and then the next day she took me to Joanne Fabrics and asked me to pick out material for blankets and window curtains!!! This is soooo funny to me, because I wasn't planning on decorating the nursery until the third trimester, but she just seemed so excited about it

We already decided to make a "monkey-themed" nursery, especially considering how much my husband loves monkeys, and she bought this blue fleece material with monkeys on it for the blanket and white curtains with monkeys on it for the windows. She will bring them back to her home in Connecticut, where she will sew everything and give it to us as gifts for Christmas. She also wants to convert a room in her house into a nursery, so who knows how wild she will go with that. She just says how much she LOVES decorating nurseries, and talks about the nursery so much more than the baby

It's very cute, though

Later tonight or tomorrow, we will call my husband's sister, father, and stepmother with the news, because unfortunately they won't be visiting us for awhile and the telephone is the only way to tell them. We have to do it quick, though, before our mother-in-law breaks the news to them!
So this is our little update, and hope you like the newest picture of our little monkey: it was taken at 10 weeks, 1 day and I can see the legs, arms, and head so much better. I stare at my pictures all the time, I'm already so in love
