My sister is 28 weeks pregnant with her first little boy. She just called my crying pretty badly saying she has been in excruciating pain since last night, it started waking her up in the middle of the night. She woke up today barely able to walk and just thought she was *tmi* constipated or something so she tried to go to the bathroom and that didnt help at all. So she left and went to school thinking shes over-reacting and everything is fine. Well, she now can barely even stand much less walk because of the pain. Im FREAKING out here, i cant have anything happen to my sister or my nephew. I said to her is it just the belly stretching feeling and she said no its wayy worse than that. (and she had those belly stretching pains pretty badly in the beginning) Anyone have any clue what it could be???? She called the doctor and they scared her even more, and told her she needs to get in right away. So she has an appointment w/the doc in about an hour and im going to go pick her up and take her. But please btdt mommies and preggos help me out here... Has anyone ever felt pains like this? I also know since its her first she doesnt know alot, but were both scared.

TIA

Anytime you have excruciating pain you should go in right away! Even if it's nothing things need to be checked out. I'd take her to her doctor and see what he/she says.

I never had pain that far along into my pregnancies.

I had a pain like she describes about 2 or 3 weeks ago. It turned out something I ate irritated my bowel.

I really hope it's something less serious like that. KUP!

Just got back from the HOSPITAL a few minutes ago. Im a little emotionally drained and in a rush to get back so heres the short story.

-My sister is very dehydrated
-She has a very shortened cervix, which we were told hightens the risk for thinning and dilation prematurely- which ultimately increases the risk for premature labor. (weird, because just last night she was saying how she felt like the baby was alot "lower down" and when he would kick she felt like he was really low-*HOPING* that isnt the case though) She may have to go one besrest to decrease the pressure down there. Or just start getting checked and having dr. appointments alot more often than she is right now.
-She has elevated white blood cell count. (still dont know what this means or what it indicates, does anyone know?)

Each time we got more news, we both kept crying because we had no idea what was going to happen, and what this meant for my sister and the baby, so im emotional right now and just want to get back.

Thanks girls

elevated white cell count usually means some kind of infection. Hopefully some rest, fluids, and maybe some anti-biotics will set her right. I'll be keeping her and her baby in my thoughts.

I am glad your sister got medical attention when she did! It all sounds scary, but chances are, there is a perfectly effective medical treatment and a few precautions to take, and she will most likely turn out just fine. Hang in there. I will be keeping your sister and her bean in my thoughts.

Thanks girls! Everything is okay for now, she will have to go to the doctor more frequently now to check for dilation and thinning of the cervix, and is now considered "high risk" simply because of the shortened cervix, which is pretty scary. But the doctors assure us everything should be fine. THANK GOD!

So glad all is well. At 29wks I had pain like that and a lot of pressure. I was dehydrated, in ptl, and had a UTI. Fluids and rest solved it all. Plenty of fluids....1 gallon a day! Did theycheck her for a UTI? Elevated WBC could be a sign of infection, or it could be normal for her as well since she is pg. She should stay off her feet as much as she can. And Brayden was VERY low and there were times when he'd kick or move around and it hurt down there so much! I once took pillows and stuffed them under my bottom while I layded on my back trying to get him to move up! Actually....i think that was either the night before I had him or just a few nights before. It felt like he was pinching me!
