CIVIL ENGINEER:
I do some design work with my job and I just got back a few pictures of two projects I have worked on recently. Thought you might all enjoy looking at pictures

Concrete Retaining Wall that has stone glued to the facade
(max height showing above grade: 26.3ft, length: 648ft):

Timber Arch Bridge (length: 20ft) constructed offsite and slid into place:

Anyone else want to share 4 pictures of their job??

Thats a very fun looking Bridge! I don't know why but anytime I see ones like that I just want to run across it a few times lol!!! Now I'm not sure what exactly you do, do you design those things or do measurements or what? But they look great!

I'm a house wife, so pics of my job would be really lame LOL!

I designed those both (I included the measurements just to give a sense of size since it is hard to tell in the photos).

The retaining wall is design to withstand the pressure of the soil behind it. I had to first design a cross section of the concrete and then I designed size and spacing of all of the steel reinforcing that is hidden inside. The curvy layout was designed by an architect but I drew up all of the AutoCAD plans needed to tell the surveyors and construction workers what dimensions to use and where to put what.

The timber bridge was designed to make sure that it doesn't bend, buckle, or twist with the weight of people on it (or under the weight of itself). Someone else from my office did the AutoCAD plans for that one. I just did the calculations to find out what size lumber to use and how close to put them.

Other projects I design include:
-Storm Drainage Pipes and Ponds
-Parking Lots
-Roads
-Sidewalks
-Parks
-Athletic Fields (those pictures should be coming soon )
-Bridges/Culverts (concrete usually although the pictures before were obviously timber)

As my husband describes it "Civil engineers design all those things that you look at, and drive on but never understand the thought behind them or everything that is happening behind the scenes (underground usually)." That retaining wall for example is really shaped like an upside down T. The flat part (footing) that it sits on is 4ft high and 19.5ft wide where the wall is the tallest, but no one will ever see that part of it.

I could go on and on. I love my job.
