So I went to the doctor today. I was conserned in her weigh loss/gain so I wanted to get her check out. She weigh's 10 pound's 9oz's. So since monday she's gained 3 oz's.....I also gave her a bottle of BM last night and feed her right before I left so I dont know If that helped her weight any. The doctor said she Is a little under weight for where they want her.....maybe 5 or so oz's...I told her I was planning on going to the LC every monday so she wants me to keep track of her weight for 2 weeks. If In 2 weeks she doesn't gain weight or lose's weight then I have to bring her back In. Then she said in that case I will have to start supplementing. I feel so bad, like Im not doing a good job of taking care of her. I really didn't want to supplement but I dont want her to get sick or no be healthy either...She did almost roll over though while she was on the table... I was just saying how she hates tummy time and doens't want to roll. As soon as she put her on there her legs and body tilted to the right. If It weren't for her arm the doc said that she'd roll over...so I guess he's on her way!!! OK, back to the subject....I feed her ALL day!!!! She's always eating!!! I pump about 4-5 oz's in the am but thats It all day. I do take Fenu-greek. 8 times a day! I also eat Oatmeal fro breakfast and eat Oatmeal bars sometimes everyday. I am trying everything I possiably can to increase my supply. I had to use the sheild before cause of my nip's being to flat. I think that she's gotten so used to sucking on the sheild she's latches on without It the same way and thats what's causeing my pain. I think that If I can get her to latch without It she should be getting more milk. The doc said some baby's do ok with the sheild forever but some dont get as much milk. Ill let you know how It goes

YOU ARE A GREAT WONDERFUL OBVIOUSLY LOVING AND CARING MOTHER. Now repeat that till YOU KNOW ITS TRUE.
because it soooo is.
From what I've seen with clients the shield does more bad then good unless your nipples actually go inward. I have never BF so I can't even pretend to know what that pain is like either, I can see why its a popular option. I hope you can get past the shield and she keeps growing. I am SSOOOOO excited to hear that you have a strong BF doctor!!!! Most would have just said something like "she's not getting enough milk you must supplement" (I want to smack the doctors who say this!). But yours is keeping her health safe and following closely and giving BF a great chance I hope you realize what a good doctor that is!
Not sure how your insurance works...but many will pay for a home LC if your doctor writes a prescription for it.....and I'm guessing yours would Its worth a phone call or two!!!!
Keep it up moma, your doing a good job

Listen to me, love!! You are doing a very good job. BFing isn't an easy job and I'm sure that Cambria is healthy even though she may be a bit small. I've always been underweight and perfectly healthy til adulthood.

If you can get a good supply from pumping then you may not have to supplement but just give her the BM from the bottle more.

Amy, don't be so hard on yourself. You are doing great!

When I had Abby, she would not BF for 3 weeks, and of course I was giving her formula too 'cause she wouldn't take anything else (except for expressed BM but I didn't have much). And really, she didn't get much BM at all, but she never did get sick till she was just over a year old (from her 1 year bday party w/ 100+ guests). I totally attribute it to the BM...it really is miracle food! So I think as long as Cambria is getting some she will be fine.

GL w/ the LC and getting her off the shield. I never did discover the shield till later, but we only used it briefly...but man w/ inversion it is hard to get a LO to latch properly. (((HUGS)))

She's happy and seems healthy enough. She has 6-10 dirty and wet dipars a day so I never thought anything of it. I know though cause Im pettite Im sure that has alot to do with It. I just figured DH's height would maybe balance our kid's out. Guess not all of them Everyone on my side of the family is short!! I the same height as my mom, and al the women in my family look alike, it's funny!
