Well, DH brought up the idea tonight about getting a cat! I couldn't believe it! I thought he didn't want to get pets for a very very long time! I have given up the idea of getting a dog (don't really want to anymore, anyways) But I LOVE cats!! The only thing, I'm really allergic to them. My eyes get really itchy and red and my throat kinda swells up a bit. I don't really have allergic reactions to anything else but cats are pretty bad! Is there anything OTC or prescription that I can take, so that we can get a cat? I'm thinking that there is, like Zyrtec or something similar but if he wants to get one, I'd be all for it!

I'm mildly allergic to my cat. I just make sure to wash my face and hands after playing with her, and I take Zyrtec and even benedryl when it gets bad. She's not allowed near my pillow either. I've been doing ok, but I don't know with how bad your allergy is....

It's not terrible, like, my whole face doesn't swell up when I'm around them, it's just pretty bothersome! But that's a good idea with the washing your face too - I always wash my hands but hadn't thought about my face!

Its all about washing your hands and taking Zyertec or Claritin. No cats in the bedroom!

People with cat allergies are allergic to the saliva. Cats lick themselves, it gets on their hair, hair gets everywhere. Keep the cat clean, keep the house clean (daily vacuuming) and using a HEPA filter (or 2).

Im allergic to cats myself, but keep a clean home, and have 2 HEPA filters running at all times. It definetly helps!

Also being around cats for a long time, you'll notice your allergies go away or lessen alot.

Perhaps getting a short haired cat that wont shed as much?

Sorry I know nothing about allergies!

But I'm SOOOOO jealous! I want a little kitten SO badly, but we are in a No Pet rental unit... and I have a baby on the way! haha.

My DH was allergic to my cat when I first dated him and he overcame his allergies.
Vacuum or sweep the floor all the time and keep the cat OUT of the bedroom..that's #1 where you spend every day. Close the door and ban the cat from bedroom 24/7.

To keep your cat busy than tempted to go in your bedroom, have his own cat stand (or cat tree) by the window to keep him/her busy and lots of toys. and his own cat bed as well.
