The last week or so I've noticed I get sore from sitting on the sofa (and even more sore sitting on the PC chair!).

When sitting on the sofa, my lower back hurts, despite me using a cushion low down. Also i have this kinda ache in my right hand side just under the bottom of my rib cage... is that normal? Pregnancy related? Or am I just fat or unfit or something

The rib ache is really bad when sitting on the PC chair, I have been trying to watch my posture and put my butt to the very back of whatever seat I'm sat on and sit up straight. It doesn't matter if I slouch down or sit up really straight, still hurts

I'm dreading this going back to work on Monday, being sat at my desk for 7 hours is not going to be fun if this keeps up! If it's "normal" then so be it, I just thought I'd ask you girlies if you get this?

p.s. I'm pretty sure I've had a tumtum growth spurt this week too, so possibly connected?

The baby is putting a lot of pressure on you right now. I wouldn't say that the kind of pain that you're describing is normal for your stage of gestation, but it's *very* common in the third trimester to have pain in the ribs, especially around the back of the cage.

I know exactly what you are talking about - I had the exact same thing when I was pregnant with Lily. It can start earlier than the third trimester depending on how high up baby is sitting. Lily was always floating up REALLY high whereas with this one I am carrying very low. What would help for me is overhead stretches. If it hurts on your right side, take your right arm (either while standing or sitting, but seems to work better while standing) and stretches it as far as you can to the left over your head. Another great stretch that helped me was to find a cushioned chair or back of a sofa that was about ribcage height and stretch my body over it. Basically just belly up to it and then stretch your arms as far forward as you can while leaning over the chair/sofa. It works better if it's cushioned so you don't have a hard piece of wood ramming into your ribcage.

Sometimes these stretches would also help to get Lily to move down a little and give me more space - hopefully it will work for you, too!!

I remember that. In the 3rd tri, I used to have trouble sitting for long, my back would start to hurt. And could the rib pain be gas? That's a possibility. Although, I also used to get that from where DD was laying, she would push up into my ribs a lot, which made it really uncomfortable to sit, I used to feel it the most driving to work. I did what kate did, the overhead stretches, it helped a bit.

if you can find a prenatal yoga class it may help get you all stretched out (and make labor easier!).
Do you happen to have a short midsection? That could be why you feel it a little earlier also.

Bubbs is still low down so I'm unsure what it could be. Possibly just poor posture, or tiredness, it seems to occur towards the end of the day.

Not gas pains cos I sure know what they are after my adventures a few weeks ago!

I too think it may be pressure from the baby. I've been reading about achiness in the lower back and sides that are common in the second and third trimesters so I'm thinking it's normal. Just may be your various body parts adjusting to the pregnancy.
