I am FREEZING. That's right, it drops to 60-70 degrees in AZ and I call that freezing I need suggestions for a hot drink. Remember I am preggo, and have no clue if caffeine is a no-no or what. I was thinking hot chocolate or something.

My OB says you've got to keep caffeine intake to under six cans of soda per day. That being said, I'm a HUGE fan of their chai latte with a pump of vanilla and a pump of hazelnut.

I think you can drink an occassional cup of hot chocolate as long as you do it in moderation.

I have had a Soy Chai Latte every day for 4 years, except when I was preggo There is a decent amount of caffeine in it, but if you get a Tall, you should be okay (however, I would avoid most all caffeine in your first tri just in case). A tall has 75mg, grande 100, and venti 150.
If you want less caffeine than that, I like a Decaf Soy Vanilla Latte. I like soy in all of my drinks not just because I can't have milk, but because its creamier.

Personally I avoid all caffeine in my first trimester and then only very occasionally during the rest of my pregnancy. Which means like a glass of iced tea (Canadian is sweet mmm) a month.
With that said. I have no suggestion on what you can get there, I am NOT a coffee drinker! Ick haha. I love hot chocolate but chocolate has alot of caffeine in it.

I dunno. I have never heard pregnant women should avoid chocolate. I even asked my RE and he said it was fine so long as it wasn't tons and tons So I had a hot chocolate, and it was good. Thx for the suggestions, I will try some of them at some point in the future

I think there has been some new studies done.
http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancy...h/caffeine.html
Google Caffeine during Pregnancy and there is a bunch of stuff.
But it's all about moderation!

I know caffeine in general should be avoided, especially coffee, but a hot chocolate isn't going to hurt anything. And my doctor encourages pregnant women to eat dark chocolate in moderation b/c it is good for pregnancy. I could look it up and link it, but I am too lazy I have seen some studies saying any type of chocolate every now and then is good for preggos. Bakers chocolate is PURE chocolate, which there isn't much of in a hot chocolate. Really, I should be more concerned about the sugar that was in it b/c of my PCOS, but I drank a little over half of the smallest size, so I think I am okay.

I was bad when it came to no caffeine. My doc said in moderation and i did. I would have decaf frappachinos ( which now they dont make anymore ) and sometimes a regular one. If I drank ice tea i would only have 1 glass, no refills. I drank my share of caffeine and she turned out just fine!

You can get any flavored syrup in steamed milk and its caffeine free. A lot of the hot teas are caffeine free too and you can ask them. They have a list. You can always get decaf lattes and the like.
I work at Starbucks so any other questions let me know.

Michelle-and all preggo girls... check out this link from my midwife. It talks about caffeine... and on the bottom of page 1 it outlines how much caffeine is in all products.... and I've heard 200-300 max per day. I try to stay under 100. I drink lots of chocolate milk!!!
Caffeine info
Hope it helps
Edited to add- the link on my midwive's website, was taken from The March of Dimes Website.

Oh Michelle! I hope you didn't take my reply as snarky or whatever! I just wanted to share the link, not only with you but everyone as it has information about TTC as well as pregnancy.
I normally (except certain foods/drinks and medication) do everything in moderation during pregnancy instead of just avoiding all together. I have also heard dark chocolate is good for you.
Man, I'm craving a hot chocolate now

I think that most things in moderation are fine.....just remember to get a small drink (12 ounces or less) instead of the large ones. Personally, I am terrified of sugar because of my PCOS.....I eat a lot of fruits, and that keeps me away from the ice creams and cupcakes. Sugar in moderation is fine, just remember how many things have sugar....like fruits, and cereals, and a lot of drinks (juices especially).....I like to drink cafe lattes from Startbucks...a tall is only 75 mg of caffeine.
