For a while now I've been looking into getting an eternity ring - mum always taught me it was tradition to receive an eternity ring to celebrate the birth of your first child - it's supposed to signify the family love. (It can be given at other times to signify other things, but this is what I was brought up to understand)

So, with my 30th birthday coming up, I suggested to DH we pay a bit each, and it can be my pressie from him - I knew it'd be expensive and couldn't expect him to pay the whole amount. So today at lunchtime I went into town.....

£250 to get it made... I'm mad, right?? So I just went for it I can't believe I did but I really wanted it and have been thinking about it for a while. This is a 5wk month so I'm in for a struggle financially but I'm so pleased I did it!!

It'll be in white gold with 5 diamonds. THey are making it to fit snugly around the other side of my engagement ring. My wedding band had to be made, so it will just be a mirror image but in white gold and with diamonds.

They had other eternity rings in the shop, white gold, starting @ £560 so i think they took a fantastic price!! I know it'd be cheaper to get it made, was same with my wedding band. It'll be ready on Friday I feel so naked as they kept my engagement & wedding rings. I can't wait to go pick it up and see the 3 rings together!!!

Oh, that will be soo pretty! I don't know about how the money converts, but we had my wedding band custom made as well and it was only $500 or so with inset diamonds. A great deal!

I haven't heard of a ring with that meaning behind it, but I absolutely LOVE it. What a special and meaningful ring to have. I can't wait to see the finished product!

I love eternity bands and I think yours will be beautiful!! I'd never heard of the meaning relating to your first child but I know here some people give them around their 5 or 10 year anniversaries. I think it's beautiful to do it for the birth of your first child.

I think because this will be our only baby, the timing is perfect for it. It's our family unit, the love is never ending, just like a ring.
