Sunday I found out that my Grandma, actually step-grandma on my Mom's side has terminal stage 4 lung cancer. She's my step-grandma, but the only grandma I really know on my Mom's side. We knew she had cancer and was going through chemo., but my Mom got a call from one of her step-sisters last week that it didn't work and there is nothing else they can do for her. I don't know if they gave a time frame as far as how long she has or anything. She lives in Michigan, and I haven't seen her in quite a few years. My parents, brother, his fiance, maybe Chris, and I are all driving up to spend some time with her from Nov. 20-25th. It may very well be the last time we get to see her. If you all could just keep my Grandma and family in your thoughts, I'd appreciate it. This has definitely been a rough year for us.

Michelle

Thanks girls! I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. I'm a little worried about being able to afford this trip and Christmas. I'm getting some crap about taking the time off from work now. I have ETO(earned time off) that I was supposed to be able to use so that I would still get my normal pay, BUT, my new manager is saying that I can't use it because they are getting slammed with requests for ETO and vacation pay. It's total bull! I'm so mad! I earned that time off! I should be able to use it whenever I want! He's perfectly fine giving me the time off, he just won't let me use my ETO! Now, I'm gonna only get paid for maybe 5 days out of 2 weeks! Plus, they are cutting hours horribly right now too! I usually get 30-40hrs/wk, and now I'll be lucky to get 20-25, so now I'm stressing about Christmas. There is no way I can afford gifts for 18 people if they cut my hours! Ugh! I'll figure something out, but it's not an option for me to not go see her knowing how sick she is. Sorry for the work rant!

Michelle

Im so sorry to hear about your grandma. i know exactly what you are going through. My grandma lives in kansas with the rest of my family and I live in michigan. and she has a TON of things wrong with her and the other night my dad called and said she was in the hospital and that her dr didnt think she would make it through the night. Her oxygen level was way down and he couldnt get her to breathe right and she was turning blue.
I hated hearing this. I just cried until I got another call. I wanted to be there so bad. Well she is doing better right now, but she doesnt seem to think that she will make it to her birthday (nov 16th). And she will only be turning 69. Its so hard for me because I cant afford to just go and see her. the money is just not there. But i did get to go down and see her in august knowing that it could be the last time. but how do you tell someone good bye forever?
But i will be praying for you and your family. and I say.. go see you grandma, everything else will work out in the end. and if you cant get everyone presents this year, then if they are your family and love you..they will understand. Its best to do whatever you can to make her last days happy and full of love and support.
I hope things work out for you and you family.
