My ticker moved (I think)! Woo-hoo!

But the point of this thread is the huge decision my DH and I made.

Remember that house we are building, that I showed pictures of? Well, we have officially backed out of that 1800 square foot, 4 bedroom, $170k home (even though for AZ it was a great deal!)

We decided to give it up and look for something smaller, cheaper, and much older in favor of a much lower mortgage payment. The reason being is that I really want to be a SAHM, and with that house, we would both have to continue working. Also, my husband is finishing an environmental engineering degree and I want him to have the ability to take on unpaid internships if needed to help his future career. So we are on the housing prowl again. And this time, we will actually be payin what we paid for rent for our mortgage.

Well, I just wanted to get that out. We feel relived, even though it is kind of a pain to start looking all over again. Only bonus is that I hear the feds might be cutting the interst rate to as low as 4%! That would be sweet, b/c our last loan was able to get us 5.5%. I am keeping my fingers crossed

That's great, Michelle! I am so incredibly jealous, though, that the house is so reasonably priced...you cannot get even an old house here for that price. Maybe I need to come move to AZ!

In all seriousness, though, I think it's great that you will be able to be a SAHM. I know how much you have wanted this & how long you have been waiting. I'm glad your dreams are all coming true. I'm sure you'll find another great house...and you're right, with interest rates dropping you could find a great deal. (Note to self: see if you can refinance...I think our loan is about 6%.)

And, yay on the ticker moving also! I'm never sure of mine either!

That sounds great Michelle!!! We had to do the same kind of thing so I could be a SAHM, and while I'd love more room (too many toys and cat things LoL!) I wouldn't trade being a SAHM for anything. Congrats on your decision!

I completely understand your decision. One of the reasons we waited to TTC was so that I could stay at home because it was just incredibly important to us. I think you'll be very happy

I think it's a great decision based on what you want to achieve. Good luck with the house hunting. I hope something you like turns up soon.

It sounds like you guys are making the right decision! We decided to buy a townhouse instead of a single family home because I knew that once I got out of the military I would want to go to college, and I am so relieved that we did that.

I think it's excellent that you and Dustin will be more able to balance your careers and family with a lower mortgage payment. Eric and I have been house hunting and are having trouble finding something really affordable in our area, so we know how it is. The house you were building was beautiful, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I am sure you'll find the perfect cute little home soon.

I think you made the right choice. I heard the 4% was only going to be for first time homebuyers. Did you hear the same thing? We are thinking about refiancing.
