DH was on a night out last night with about 4 or 5 other people. Stupidly he wanted to visit a karaoke bar and parted company with them, sauntered off by himself.

As happens in pubs, he brushed past another guy cos it was busy - DH turned and apologised to the guy to be polite - and got punched

He says he was knocked out for a split second, the bar staff helped him to his feet, got his coat and helped him to a taxi. He slept on the sofa so I've only found out about an hour ago. His eye is very swollen, almost closed, is very bruised. He feels sick and dizzy....

What should we do? I made an ice pack when I got up - ice cubes within a face cloth and he sat with it on his eye for about 30-45 minutes. He's had a cup of coffee, glass of water, a slice of toast and 2 paracetmol (painkillers).

His cheek bone feels fine, so nothing to worry about there - I've never seen a black eye before let alone had to treat one

Does he normally get sick and dizzy after a night of drinking? If not he may have a mild concussion....which you would just watch closely...If he starts throwing up or acting odd (more then normal ) take him STRAIGHT to the ER he could have a bigger problem. If it starts huring MORE I would take him to the clinic-he could have a hairline fracture in the cheek or eye socket bones.
I would just keep his head higher then his heart (pillow while laying down), and give him some ibuprophen (NO asprin) and keep some ice on it.

He slept almost all day yesterday, didn't eat too much until around 6pm. Up til then he felt quite sicky. He never really gets hungover other than tired, but not to the extent he was yesterday. However he was very snuffly and blocked nosey, so I wonder if he has a touch of a cold as well.

I didn't see him this morning as it was dark when I left for work, but he emailed, the swelling has gone down a bit, he's quite sensitive to bright light, but he says it's most likely due to the fact he's had his eye closed for so long (like when you put the light on in your room when it's still dark, it kinda hurts your eyes?). He sounds like he's ok. I made him prod all the bones around his eye/cheek yesterday, nothing was sore to press/touch, so I assume no fractures.
