DH & I are going up to my parents tmor, it's a 160 mile drive (3hrs approx) by car. Then back on Sunday.

I know I still technically have 5 weeks til my EDD, but if it was you, would you take baby's car seat? And if your answer is yes... would you take your hospital bag? I'm not expecting anything to happen, but I'm undecided... just in case?

Hmmmm...I'd take my notes for sure and may be a couple things from my hospital bag but not the entire contents.

As for the car seat, I'm really not sure at all. How strict are the rules in the UK? Here, though a car seat is recommended, a mom can ride from the hospital with her newborn in arms but only in the backseat of the vehicle.

Very strict here. You cannot travel in a car with a child under 3 yrs unless they are in a car seat. The hospital wouldn't let you home unless you had a car seat to tie baby into.

I would just take the carseat. The rest you can actually do with out in an emergency ya know?

In the USA you HAVE to have a car seat or your cant leave the hospital with the baby - The child must be in the carseat untill their either 40lbs or 5years of age.

Fiona, I would take it just in case - you never know what can happen! I hope you have a nice, uneventful trip!

I live in Barbados so I guess some of our laws are still a bit backward. They do advise you on the hospital lists to have a car seat installed but I've heard about a lot of cases where they don't force you to use it.

Of course I'll be using mine. I think it's the best way to transport your baby safely.

Fi, I think you should take it along.

It wouldn't even have occurred to me to take the carseat & hospital bag if I still had 5 weeks to go, so I wouldn't have taken them, lol

But it certainly wouldn't hurt to have them with you.
