Yep, I watched it. It was about "extreme" parenting... but really, I didn't see anything at all extreme about anything they talked about, except for the Reborn dolls. The lady that took the little dolls out and pretended they were real was quite extreme. But the home-birthing, breastfeeding and multiple surrogacy was not at all extreme. And I really do not like how they talked about home birth, as if it were some type of horribly dangerous weird fad or something.

Basically, I was annoyed by the whole show..

Yeah. I was annoyed by the whole show too. But, the reborn dolls are a little scary to me. Taking them out to get attention is a little out there to me.

Oh man I watched a BBC documentary about women who like those reborn dolls and it was so freaky! I think they usually have psychological problems, it seems like a lot of women who do that have lost a child in one way or another. I think it's very sad...

I watched it! DH watched with me today... and the reborns were weird... the way shewould hold the baby doll and that woman was like, she's cold... and she said, 'she's a doll.' Weird!

And I think the BF of the babies of 6 years old, and the 8 year old in England was a little much. I am all for nursing 1 maybe 2 years... but I don't want to after that. But thats just me. I never knew of the 8 year old! WOW!

I'm all for having a big O during birth though... DH thought that was interesting, and said he likes the idea of making out during labor.

My brother and his GF made out during labor. I believe it's suppose to help you progress. Maybe because it's relaxing? Anyways, she had a natural childbirth.

I watched it and was creeped out by the re-borns. Those women just seem a bit odd to me! I, myself, could never have a baby doll and pretend that it was my real baby. I was to interested in reading TCOYF to really pay attention to anything else on it.

I just asked him if will make out during labor, and he said "with the doula, midwife, and maybe a nurse in there?" I said "I'll make them leave for a bit " He said "we'll see"... haha

Now how can I ask my doula to step out for few mins so DH and I can suck face? Haha

I know many people who hopped in the shower together even in the hospital and had a good mug down session to speed up labor and the good hormones. You can make it work

Go for it! Haha My labor was WAY to fast to have any kind of make out session but I remember one of MIL's friends telling us about how the nurses got her and her husband to go to the washroom and "fool around" and do some nipple stimulation to get things progressing haha.

I'm sure a doula, midwife, or nurse would understand. Even if they didn't, do what you want! Trust me, labor is ALL about you! haha..

That doll thing totally creeped me out, especially when the lady said that the "baby" felt cold...

Actually that reminds me! haha. When I was in the pushing stage I had just gotten out of the shower and they offered to get me a gown or cover me up but I didn't want anyone to touch me so I did it naked. Well hubby was standing there holding my leg and rubbing my shoulder and then realized that he was rubbing my boob! haha talk about a good make out session. I can honestly say I didn't notice a thing haha.

Hmm... this is explains it. At lunch today FMIL and FSIL were saying they saw some gross stuff about kids who are old BFing. Given, I would have thought the same thing if I didn't know much about it. I haven't actually seen this 20/20 but when they described an 8 yr old english girl BFing I instantly knew who they were talking about b/c it comes up regularly on the debate boards. Anyway, I pretty much ended that entire conversation with a 'I disagree with all of you, and clearly won't be including you in my parenting choices." and then they just shut up and changed the subject. Not before of course FMIL said she could never BF b/c her boobs were too big and would smother the baby What an idiot. I love her and spending time around her but she is going to DRIVE ME CRAZY when we have children. She already is with her idea of how my wedding shoudl be. ugh.

Sorry for the rant... it's just that this thread made me realize that must have been what they watched that sparked their ignorant comments this afternoon.

As for reborn babies... I think they are INCREDIBLE. The people who craft those babies do amazing work. Alison (Alison81) does them and sells them and the detailing in those dolls is just outrageous. As far as taking it in public and pretending its an actual baby... well that's a little over the top. But the dolls themselves don't creep me out at all.. I wouldn't mind having one! They're amazing to me.

I love the dolls too, Shannon. I think they are amazing and honestly wouldn't mind collecting a few. But the woman on this show was pushing the baby around in a stroller, taking the baby out in her arms and pretending it was real, etc. Too far IMO.

BAHAHAHAAA!

When I had Aden my boob was definitely way bigger than her head and I still breastfed That is such a ridiculous thing to say, I probably would have just burst out laughing!

And about the dolls...I agree they are really cool to look at, although sometimes they put breathing mechanisms in them and that freaks me out. Like at truck stops when they have those dog and cat figurines that breathe? They always scare me. But yeah, I haven't watched the 20/20 show yet but on the BBC documentary I watched the people were pretty much nutso. Those women spent SOOOO much money on the dolls and designer strollers and clothes for them...way more than I spend on my real kids! One lady had a designer stroller for each doll and she had an extra set of wheels that she would put on whichever stroller she was taking out of the house so she wouldn't get the original ones dirty!

I don't know why those people don't just adopt a real baby and give it a home if they have that kind of money.
