Well we left one hour early to get to the appointment, but then found an accident on the interstate that had us sitting for 30min! We got to the office only 5 min late which was fine because the midwife was going to be even later! LOL On the drive there Troy was sort of having the realization that he needs multiple ways to get me to the birthing center when we get closer to due date just in case we hit traffic. I bet he ends up with at least 5 paths by the time we are due LOL.
So for my appointment......First we chatted with the nurse and went over history and family history--all the boring stuff. Got my BP 108/75 and had some blood drawn and a sterile urine test (should get the results back next week). After the nurse was done with me I got to meet Hilary, one of the midwives. She was very nice, she spent 1 hour going over everything with us and even took the time to answer Troy and Mine million questions list! One of the things that I learned was that pelvic rest does include NO orgasms also, not that it matters because we aren't on it, but its nice to know. Also did you know you CAN have TO MANY massages....*jaw drops*....looks like I have to scale back some. sad.gif She gave me a prescription for some prenatal vitamins with stool softner AND Omegas in them. So now I will take 2 pills a day instead of 5...which will be nice. I do lose my probiotics though---may have to go buy some on their own. Also I got a prescription for some Macrobid, in case of UTI while traveling---I tend to get those easily. And finally a prescription for a fetal heart monitor---so my insurance will be paying for one!!!! WOOT!!!
After the long talk and Q&A's......The finale of the appointment was the hearing the fetal heart tones with a Doppler.....which we heard!!!! I have never heard via Doppler my bean's heartbeat so it was pretty cool. The little guy was about 171-177 bpm. Oh I also got some of that wonderful Glucose drink so I have it when we come back (about 27 weeks along) to do my sugar test and we will have our next u/s done then! In the mean time I'm just suppose to see a provider in the Philippines for some routine checks once a month till I get back---easy peasy!
Sounds like an excellent appointment and cheers to hearing the baby's heartbeat!
I must admit that I thought, "hmmm...little guy? Perhaps little girl" based on the heartbeat and the old wives tales though I don't place any faith in those things.
Sounds like it went awesome, that's great!!! Yep, sounds like a girl heartbeat to me!! Both my girls were in the 170s in the beginning and both lowered, as they got bigger, to the high 150's-160's I know it doesn't mean much but ya never know LoL.
Ben had a girl's heartbeat in the beginning...don't be fooled! I was convinced he was a girl all along.
I'm glad to hear it all went well and you got to hear the heartbeat...what a wonderful sound!

Yah for such a wonderful appt! And thats awesome about hearing the heartbeat!!! Sounds like a girl too My girl had a 175 hb at our 11 week appt. Its gone down a little, but I heard thats normal as the fetus gets older. She's now at a 150! But I know the HB myth is a myth
I know you already know not to think the h/b means girl/boy. Our guy had a heartrate of 162 at my first visit, high enough that some did wonder if I was having a girl.
