Well, this trip to MD has turned out to be a big pain in the rear so far. I am SO beyond annoyed!

So we go in this morning to pick up the rental car. We had made the reservations on the phone with a lady, she told us what the entire cost was (right around $200) and that we could pick it up at 9am. Easy enough, right? So Mom hands over her credit card, which you HAVE to have to rent a car BTW, and the woman is all like "insufficient funds on this card". ***? I had just handed my mom $150 a couple days ago to go toward the car, watched her put it in the bank, we know it cleared. So then the lovely woman decides to tell us that they have a "new policy" that you have to have at least $100 over what the total is in order to get a car. Uhm, WHAT?

NO one told us this. We have rented cars from this place for YEARS, and have never had to do that. Mom never uses her credit card, so she doesn't really ever put money into that account. So we only had just enough to cover the cost of the car, which is what we do every freaking time. And this woman looks at us like WE are the stupid ones. Uhm, if this policy is so important, why are you not telling anyone about it when they reserve a car? The guy in front of us was told the same thing- that he couldn't have the car because of it. He is missing his aunt's FUNERAL because this woman is inept.

Couldn't they have freaking LET US KNOW the TWO times we talked to them on the phone?!?! SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Whaaaaaa. So now we have to wait until the bank opens tomorrow morning (9am), put money in, wait for it to clear (who knows how long that'll take with this friggin' place. Erghhh) and THEN leave. Meaning we will be basically driving all night.

NOT HAPPY PREGGO right now!

I'm sorry Lauren! I seriously hate idiots, and idiot companies that don't think that kind of info should be in glaring orange everywhere!

Oooh I'm sorry, Lauren ... that sucks big time! Especially for that guy who is trying to get to a funeral! I totally understand why their policy is that way... they need a reserve deposit to cover if you put extra miles on the car, don't fill the gas tank back up, etc. etc. but it's a shame they weren't capable of making that clear beforehand. I'm sorry their lack of communication is wreaking havoc on your trip!

i'M sorry Lauren... we've rented from so many places.... and I thought that if you use a credit card, you don't need an "extra deposit"... but if you use a debit card, you have to. We are renting our car in FL tomorrow and we use a debit card for everything, and we're renting from Hertz... cost us $125 for the rental, and $200 for the deposit, which we get credited when we return the car. Sucks I know, but they are protecting themselves if you don't return, or don't put gas in or whatever! I'm sorry they didn't tell you. Which car company, so I know in future. Hertz and Alamo is usually who we use... and DHs buddy is a manager at an Enterprise, but they are always too expensive!

I totally UNDERSTAND the policy. I just don't get why we weren't told. If it is so important, they need to tell people about it when they call to make the reservations. We would have gladly complied if we had known beforehand. I mean, if they want to make money, why screw people over? GRR.

I feel really bad for the guy missing the funeral. He threw a fit, too. We are just going to meet my sister's fiance for the first time.

We were using the Budget Rent-a-Car here in town, the same exact one we have used since before I can even remember really!

I'm sorry, Lauren. I can understand why you would be annoyed but try not to let it stress you too much. I'm sorry the guy missed the funeral. That sucks!

That sucks that they didn't tell you. FYI every rental car places does a different amount....our is $2,000 for "availability" of charge on our credit card with each rental! Many hotels are starting to do this also.
