Does anyone have any books they highly recommend for pregnancy? I was going to buy 'What to Expect When You're Expecting', but I was going to wait until I am at least TTC (just a little over a month...yah!). Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks ladies!

What to Expect was my favorite book so I can't really recommend anything else. I read lots of websites and I don't know if your OB/midwife will give you any material but mine did at my first prenatal visit

I'm going to get "What to expect when you're expecting" from the local library! Why pay for it if i don't have to right?! And i've heard great things about "taking charge of your fertility." Of course that's more of a pre-pregnancy book i believe. I found that at the library too! I have it on hold right now! Woot woot!!

Your Pregnancy Week by Week, 6th Edition (Your Pregnancy Series)

I LOVE this book! DH and I read the next chapter every Sunday (which is when I reach a new week). It explains how baby is growing what you can expect from your body. I find it WAY more interesting than the What to Expect book.

The what to expect series is my least favorite actually (i KNOW so many love them tough). For a general pregnancy book I loved Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Infant by Penny Simkin (anything by penny is good!), for a great book on your options in childbirth I LOVE LOVE LOVE Henci Goer's- A thinking woman's guide to a better birth (can't say enough about this book). But I have read most books out there LOL. I haven't read Dr. Sear's series and I have hear NOTHING but great from them!!!

Actually, I really didn't like WTEWYE. It seems like there is a new reason to worry on every page. Overall the tone of the book is almost negative.

I liked the one Morgan posted. I also liked Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. It is more of a funny book but you still get some good advice. I also enjoyed the ones by Jenny McCarthy (Belly Laughs and Baby Laughs) but again, they are more humorous than informational.

Someone posted a link to a website a while back in the aug or sept DDC, and if you sign up they will give you a free copy of WTEWYE!! I signed up, who knows if anything will come of it, but hey, it was free, worth a shot I guess!!! I will try to find the link and see if it is still valid, you may not like the book, but hey, my thoughts were ITS FREE!!

Im a lurker and WTEWYE had me in tears almost every time I read it. I had a new reason to worry every time and constantly was in fear that I was losing the baby. I have also heard that the what to expect toddler years is crap. pure crap. It is very anti-breastfeeding.. which is why its crap. I second the Your Pregnancy Week by Week. I loved that one... but WTEWYE.. no way.. I will never ever give that to anyone as a "yay, your preggo" gift EVER. AGAIN. (I did before I got preggo and read it myself!)

^^^^I agree 100%!!!

I hated WTEWYE--very negative and scary. I keep it around though because it has a section on how to deliver the baby before help arrives--my kids come quickly so I like to have that info just in case. The WTE toddler years is horrible too and it's anti-breastfeeding stance is mainly what really turned me off to it.

I absolutely LOVE Your Pregnancy Week by Week. It is very informative and I love the pictures every week. It even has your baby drawn to scale for the first several weeks.

I really like "Great Expectations in Pregnancy" Its the equivalent of WTEWYE, but not fear based, and more medically accurate.

I really like the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy

The other one I read is, The Pregnancy Bible: Your Complete Guide to Pregnancy and Early Parenthood
LINK

Pregnancy Week by Week is cool too.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like WTEWYE! I have a copy my mom bought. I refer to it when I'm having an issue I'm not sure of i.e. cramping, constipation, etc.

I'm way more into enjoying how baby is growing!

Thank you ladies for ALL the recommendations. I am glad I didnt buy WTEWYE-sounds SCARY!!!! I think I will pick up the Pregnancy Week-By-Week. The library is a great recommendation, but I do have some money on a gift card to Waldenbooks so I may pick up a book for myself and go to the library for the rest. Thank you all!!!!

Oh FYI that FREE book ended! Which I guess is a good thing since it may have scared me to death!
