Thanks for asking. I've been trying to type up my birth story but I find sitting up for a long time makes me a bit stiff so I'm holding off until a bit later and just trying to keep up with responding to posts.

I'm doing great (apart from the soreness and me not taking the pain meds). I prefer to use as little drugs as possible and the nurse said if I can do without them, then go ahead. Sleeping comfortably is the hardest part but as for getting around and doing other things, it's been OK. Granted, Andre does most everything.

Amara is pretty well-behaved and I'm welcoming it right now and praying she stays this way (is that wishful thinking?). She sleeps pretty well at night and isn't really fussy. Now that my milk came in, she's getting up once during the night but she's not nursing as long as before so I suspect that's why. She has a little gas which makes her pretty uncomfy but yet she's coping with it well.

She hates a bath and she doesn't really like to get her diaper changed. I'm having a house visit tomorrow from a midwife and I have to ask her for tips on how to make bath time easier on her. At the hospital they showed us how to bathe them and all that but I can't do it as fast because of the c/s. I gave her a sponge bath yesterday and she didn't like that either.

As for breastfeeding, all I can say is THANK GOD I went to a lactation class the Friday before she was born. Because I would have been in trouble if I hadn't. We learned how to hold them to get the nipple back, etc and even with all that we learnt I still ended up with very sore and cracked nipples especially when my milk came in. And then the engorgement, that was SO painful. One night I could not sleep but I pumped it off the next day and that helped a lot. I'm still having some discomfort but it's getting better.

Amy, thanks. Jen did a fantastic job with it.

Oliver hated bath time two the first couple times I tried. What I started doing when he was very young (maybe 2 wks?) was taking a shower or bath with him. He loves it. I think it's that he feels comfortable on my shoulder and in my arms.

My nipples got a little cracked and sore the first couple weeks too. I think no matter what it happens. At about 3/4 weeks they got MUCH better. After 6/8 weeks they won't hurt at all.

I remember it being hard for me to get in and out of bed because my stomach was so sore. It took a few weeks or more to I felt no discomfort at all. You are so lucky she is sleeping so well!

Thank you.

Resi, how long did the section take to actually heal? I want to wash my hair which is really thick but don't think I can do it yet. I was thinking about going to a salon to get it done but then you have to lie back in the chairs. I really need it washed though.

I'm hoping she keeps up the sleeping, forever would be fantastic but I'd be happy if she does it until I'm healed.

BTW: Does anyone's baby's make noises in their sleep? She makes a lot of noises in her sleep. Sometimes I'll get up because I think she's up but she's not, she's just sleeping and making the noises.

Awwww @ the noises. I'm sure it's normal, but hopefully someone can answer.

Could DH maybe wash your hair? Are you able to bathe/shower? (I don't know the do's & don't's post-surgery )

Love the updates! Hope you heal quickly. Maybe have andre wash your hair as well? All three of you in the shower at once, maybe?

I took a shower and washed my hair two days after my surgery in the hospital. Did they tell you not to get wet? I was told I could shower like normal but not to mess with the incision when washing myself. My scar still looks pink and very noticeable. I can't remember how long it took to heal but it was still a healing at my 6 week post partum appoinment. It's still a little sore if I mess with it.

Oliver made a ton of cute noises in his sleep. It's normal. It's a newborn thing. Also, the gas will get better after she learns how to pass it better. I think that happens with all newborns too. Oliver would get so upset when he was a newborn but around maybe 2 months it got a lot better. He still has it but knows how to work it out without getting upset.

Newborn sounds are so cute and normal! I love Drake's little squeaky noises and the such. You will soon learn the difference between her needing you, and her just making noises.

My nipples finally quit hurting at two weeks. They are still tender at times, but the severe pain stopped at 2 weeks.

Amara is just beautiful. Be forewarned, the sleeping gets better and worse from night to night. Drake is a little over 3 weeks. Some nights are hell, some are glorious. Just take it one day and night at a time, and don't think about the next. Congrats again!

Thanks so much! It's great to have us all here to get feedback and advice.

I just had my home midwife visit with a midwife returning from England. She was lovely.

Fi, I have stitches that dissolve and they put a waterproof sealant over it. I shower as usual but have to make sure to keep the area dry.

Everyone (nurses and midwives) keep saying how my stitches are lovely so I'm not sure what that means. If I look at it, I can't see anything so I guess that means it won't be noticeable. It's right in my bikini line either way so I'm not bothered even if it's noticeable.

Resi, did your tummy go down right away? If not, how long did it take? I have a little bulge. It seems to be looking smaller every day but it feels like jello.

As for Andre washing my hair, it's too curly for him to do. I'd be in stitches (no pun intended) by the time he's done. In my pics I usually have it flat ironed so it looks straight but it's not. I had it chemically straightened but have been growing it out since Dec. 07 so it's not as easy for him to wash.

What about a female friend or family who could wash it for you? I can understand where you're coming from - I never feel "clean" unless my hair is washed. ANd I have to wash it daily or I look like I've stuck my fingers in an electric socket!!

this is my dread about my hospital stay - how on earth can I re-do my hair after delivery - and I know "I wont care", I've been told that so many times... but I do care. How can I go with my hair standing on end

I'm sure she will come to enjoy her baths. Reid SCREAMED during his first sponge baths and his first 2 real baths, but now he loves them and never cries. He also used to cry during every diaper change, but that will pass too. Give it a few weeks and i'm sure she won't mind as much.

You're doing a great job! The engorgement and cracked nipples will slowly start to get better with time.

I'm glad every thing is going good!!! Amara is too cute, she looks like a little princess!

How low did they cut you? They cut me in kinda lop sided below my bikini line, I was up and about with in a few days. But my room mate in the hospital who also had a c-section was cut a bit high up then me and she took a bit longer to recover. I hope you get too feeling better soon!

I looked awful right after having Oliver! I was swollen from all the IV fluids pumped into me. It took awhile for it to go down but it looked better every day. It's still not flat but it's much better. The breastfeeding helps a TON. I have about 8 lbs before I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I have a saggy belly now. It's never going to be back to it's old shape no matter what I do. I think you will be back to normal much faster because you are thinner than I was and didn't get any awful stretch marks!

Fi, I'm the same way. I have to wash my hair every day or I feel gross. Don't worry. You will be able to wash it. It just might be a day or two.
