I had to go check mine out. It's straight with a little curve to it.
Angela, were you awake for your c/s? I was.

They can be not straight because of the way the baby is laying when they do the cut (if he was favoring one side he would have been pulling you belly that way). Its not uncommon to have it not perfect straight, many look more like a little smiley face (nipples are the eyes! LOL)

Mine is cut to match my bikini line so it's pretty straight with a slight curve...hope that's not confusing.

So this probably sounds like a really dumb question but what's the difference between being awake and completely out? Do you feel anything when you're awake or do they just use other meds to numb you?

Completely out is just that. You're out cold. You see, hear and feel nothing.
Awake is when there's no feeling from the waist down. You awake/alert and can see/hear persons around you. This allows for you to be able to hold the baby after he/she's born and sometimes even breastfeed.
Hope I explained ok without getting too technical.

Also, when your awake you feel lots of pressure and tugging. I always thought being awake would be awful and scary but it was not bad. I did get to hold him about 10 mins after he was born and tried to breastfeed soon after.

I'm so pissed I was knocked out! If I have any more kids I think I will have a scheduled c-section just so I know what happened this time wont happen again!!! I so wanted to hear Landen cry for the first time!!!

Did it feel like they we're tugging at your tummy, or tugging something out? I don't know if I'm wording this right lol!

Angela if you were knocked out completely then you most likely had a crash or close to a crash c/s which means time counts and we don't care what your cut looks like just that we get baby out NOW. So that would also explain why yours my be uneven (a full crash c/s will cause you to get an vertical incision--belly button to pubic bone because its the fastest way to get a baby out).
And krista the difference between being awake and knocked out is the medication you get. If your knocked out you have gotten general anesthesia (like you would for most surgeries), this is where you are sleeping and not awake for any of it, there for not feeling any or it nor being aware of whats going on. This is used for women who can't or choose not to have an spinal/epidural or a crash/true emergency patient who we don't have time to put the needle in the back and make sure the drugs are working (this takes about 20-40 min). With general anesthesia we have you out in about 2 min and if its a true emergency we can have baby out in just about 2 more minutes! (they can book it if they need little one out)
For an awake c/s you have gotten either a spinal block or an epidural (the needle in the back stuff), this numbs your body from midway down so you don't feel any pain, but your aware of pressure and some movement. Your awake during the surgery. This one is more for problems like "failure to progress" and "lodged in pelvis" ....things we have time to put in the epidural/spinal and make sure that it took then take them to surgery.
Now if mom already had the epidural in and THEN needed a c/s we can just change the medication make sure it works and send them off for a c/s --this is the in between for time wise.

I got the epidural, and by the time we opted for a c-section, even with 4 or more tubes of epidural stuff, I still felt everything but the pain. I felt them cut me open (it tickled me) I felt them push down on my stomach, I felt them go in and grab his head. It just never hurt. it was very odd.
Now my 2nd c-section, I must have gotten a spinal block because holy rusted metal batman, I went from hurting to numb in 3 seconds flat. I almost fell off the table I got numb so fast LOL! I didnt feel a thing!!! It also took longer for the meds to wear off.
I was fully awake for both. And yes, my incision site curves just a bit like a smile

I was out cold, unfortunately. I think they were worried about the baby since I was in the final stages of labour for so long. Originally one of the docs had said I could probably get a spinal but when I got to the OR, the anesthesiologist said that he was giving the full thing because the baby was likely to go into fetal distress or she was in fetal distress (I can't remember exactly).
