Just a thought I've been having...
Why do alot of first babies come late? Do you think it has anything to do with the doctors initially setting the wrong due date?
Just as an example, I ALWAYS had 26 day cycles when I was temping. But my doctor wanted to immediately base me off 28 day cycles, to figure out conception.
Apparently it's my new baby obsession to wonder when this little one will come.

Because its your bodies first time so its slowly making sure it does the right things. Where after your first you bodies recognizes what up and response quicker. Same reason first time moms put on more weight...because your body isn't 100% sure what up so it stores a little extra just in case, the following time your body is like "oh THIS again" LOL. Your body and brain are both wondering about the what ifs and so they both worry, once you have done it those go away for the most part.
And many providers don't take into consideration a women's normal cycle. Some do some don't.

They say the average gestation for a first baby is 41 weeks 2 days I think. Maybe they just base it off 40 weeks because 40 is a round number and easier to go by?
My first was 3 weeks early and my second was born on his due date so I've never been "late." I have a feeling I'll go longer with the next one though. My cycles are defintely not the "average" 28 days though. I just ovulated this cycle on day 31 so they can't use the wheel for me!

That's what I've always heard, that it's more common for first time mommies to go late. I was induced 5 days past my due date. I had lost chunks of my mucous plug for 2 weeks prior, had my cervix stripped since 38 weeks, tons of contractions, walked at least 1 hour a day, had sex, ate spicy food... nothing! I was 2 centimeters and 80% effaced when I went in though. My mom was late with her first and so were my 2 sisters.

I recently learned 12% of women go late (like medically LATE 42 weeks)...didn't realize it was that high.

It is typical to go late. If I was to go by my conception/ovulation date, my EDD is Feb 1st. My 12 week scan brought it back by 2 days to Jan 30th.
It's horrid to reach your EDD and absolutely nothing has happened. I've had no show, no plug, no contractions, nothing. Absolutely not a thing. Only thing I'd say is my braxtons are a little stronger, but not anything I could say "ooh this might be it". I've been out walking, DH & I aren't able to DTD but we've messed about... seemingly the big O helps stimulate contrax - nuh uh!
I've decided that none of these things help, it's a case of baby will come when its ready and not a moment before unless induced!

I too have always heard that first time babies come late BUT, I just looked at the Due Date Thread and so far, only 4 out of 10 WTTC grad babies were late (I only counted the first-time moms' babies). Breanna's baby was born on his due date and 5 babies were early. Late babies were 1 to 6 days late.
ETA: By "late" I mean after the baby's due date.

Overall we have 11 boys and only 5 girls! For first-time mommies, we have 7 boys and 3 girls.
Right now, we are expecting 6 boys and 5 girls (and a few surprises )

Interesting stats! I had someone the other day tell me that boys come early but girls come late b/c girls want to take their time.
I dunno, my mom said all 3 of her kids were late so I kind of expect that my little guy may take his time. My little brother came horridly late (maybe 3 weeks after due date?). They should have induced in his case, he was losing weight and the placenta was starting to dry up.

I'm the oldest, I was due January 22, 1984. I was born January 15, 1984....my mom was in labor 45 minutes. Edward was my first, I was due with him July 17, 2005 and he tried to come 3 months early, then 2 months early. He was born July 15, 2005 after 29 and 1/2 hours and an emergency c-section he was born 2 days early.
I had a friend who was due December 30, 2004 and she had her son on January 8th 2005. I don't know how long her labor was but he weighed 11 lbs. And she had a vaginal birth.

I think most first babies are meant to be late but our angel baby came naturally at 39 weeks and then Ryan induced at 38 weeks and 3 days and then this one will be nearer 39 weeks.
