Monday Preston had a high fever so I took him to the doctor and found out he had the on-set of an ear infection. He has been on amoxicilan since Monday as well as infant tylenol for pain. Ever since Monday, I've had a difficult time getting him to latch on to eat. Plus he just won't sleep at night. We thought he was getting better when he woke up at 2:30am this morning and was up for an hour and a half, he was laughing and playing. He just wouldn't go back to sleep. Tonight, I tried to breastfeed him and he bit me. I said "ouch" and jerked away. And he immediately started to cry. Everytime I try to get him to latch, he just cries like he's in pain. I cannot console him, DH can. I feel like I'm doing something wrong to upset my baby. He will sleep, but only on DH shoulder and I can't get him to settle down or DH will give him to me once he's asleep and he wakes up and starts to cry. What can I do? What am I doing wrong?? Could his ear STILL be hurting him??

I have no experience here whatsoever so I'm not sure what to say but firstly, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. He may just be fussy from the ear infection and DH right now is another source of comfort. I'm sure its only temporary.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time! You arent doing anything wrong hun! I dont have much experience with little ones and ear infections since I dont have any of my own, but I know for me, most of my life they have had to try different meds for ear infections (I usually get at least 2 a year) and each time I have to take a different med. Not sure if its because I've built an ammunity or something, but maybe the amoxicilan isnt working for him. I hope he feels better soon!!

Im sorry Brandi....Dont feel bad, Cambria does alot of those things all the time. I can never get her to fall asleep on me but when DH has her she's out. ALmost everytime I nurse her or give her a bottle she whines like she's in pain. My doctor said some babies just act like there in pian when they eat and talk Loud. I hope It's just a phase for both of us

Well, he developed a rash and he's allergic to amoxicillin. On the bright side, the dr. gave us a strong med that he can take in less time with less dosage. I still can't get him to nurse, can't get him to take a bottle but he'll at least eat some solids, but I don't want him getting used to eating that. I just wish my baby felt better!
