Today, DH, the boys and I were going to the Mall for lunch and to Target. As we were driving, I heard this thump on a metal popcorn can we have on the floor under Preston's carseat. I thought Edward tossed a toy down onto it because he does that a lot. All of a sudden, I hear Chris telling me to stop the car. I stop the car and ask what's wrong. I see Chris with his hand in the back behind my seat (I'm driving because Chris can't drive a manual transmission). I look behind me, Chris is holding Preston's card seat up. Edward told Chris that Preston's carseat had flipped and Preston had almost fallen out. If I hadn't paid attention to the nurse in the NICU about the carseat straps, Preston would have slipped out of the carseat onto his head. He was LITERALLY flipped upside down. The problem with our convertible carseat is that it has a lip on the front that doesn't sit right (at least it doesn't look like it to me, but the instruction manual says it's correct) and my car is a 1989 Volkswagen Golf, so the seatbelt isn't the greatest. I can't just go buy a new car because Chris just got laid off at his job and I have a job interview at a bank on Wednesday so right now, we can't just go an buy a new car. I'm afraid to even have either of the boys in the car. Not if the seat belts are this worn....I may have to talk to my dad because he's the one who helped me get this car, but I also want a new carseat because I suddenly don't trust the one I have. Preston is too big for the infant seat, but I may put him in it until we can get a better convertible carseat. Preston is 20 lbs, and outgrew his infant seat at 4 months. I just want my baby to be safe!!!
This is the carseat that flipped with my son in it: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=8054497

Our EvanFlo Titan is very similar to it and I'm glad we just got a new one, the thing was a piece of crap.
Glad that he was ok and hopefully you can figure something out so you can still go places with them.

OMG are you Fing serious??? That's the seat Aden uses in my ex husband's car!!! I'm getting a new one ASAP...I always thought it looked flimsy!
If you can get the money somehow I would recommend getting a Britax, we have a Roundabout right now but she is moving up to a regent that I just bought online. Albeebaby.com has really good careats for lower prices and you can get free shipping.

Scary - but I'm glad your baby is okay. I had a car seat flip with my DS in it when he was like six months old - an infant seat and the whole base and everything went flying to the other side of the car when I turned a corner...it was my fault though - some girls sat in my backseat and mistakenly unbuckled the base from the car thiinking it was the middle seat belt....I never checked it so it wasn't hooked in. The centripicle force of the turn flipped the seat over and slid it to the other side of the car. Thanksfully the infant seat and base made like a little tent for my son and he was perfectly fine.....but I double triple checked the latches from then on.

That is crazy!!! You should contact the manufacturers!!! I so glad Preston is alright and that Chris was with you when it happened. I don't want to think about if you were on your own.

I believe it was both. But I never had a problem with other carseats in my old, ancient car, just this one.
