I signed up for the Rachel Carson Trail Challenge . It's a 34 mile hike with a 15 hour time limit to finish. However, the friends that I'm doing it with want to aim to finish in 8-9 hours! Basically we'll walk the huge hills and run whenever we can. It's going to be brutal! Hopefully this will give me the motivation to keep up with my training since my deposit is non-refundable. I just wanted to share my moment of insanity for the day (or year!).

Yea, I'm officially certifiably insane. I looked up the elevation changes and apparently the total amount of climbing or uphill parts of the course make it only 3,000 feet less of a climb that EVEREST! And those climbers take 4 base camps to get there! I must be nuts!

I think that is awesome!!! Good for you girl!!!! Go for it and I can't wait to hear about it!!!
I someday want to do a full marathon, but I'd rather do a big hike like that. I've done 5Ks... but running in a straight line, not my fave thing to do. I love to get on the treadmill and do the high hikes.
also- curious- how much does it cost?

It was $55 to sign up yesterday. Sometime in the next month or so it goes up to like $75 and then within the last month before the race it goes up to $88 or something weird like that.
Thanks everyone! And JenJen, your mom is my hero! I eventually would like to try the Western States 100!

Sara, if you want, I can give you the link to her blog and you can join as well. There are a ton of runners on there including several ultra runners who are always willing to comment and give training tips, etc. Just PM me if you want it.
