hehe Angela, I'm usually about on the UK board.

I'm doing good. I have to admit, last week I was struggling, the whole mum thing got on top of me a lot. After the struggle we had to get our gorgeous girl, I started to doubt my ability as a mother, and wondered what the heck I'd let myself in for - I think it's a normal part of becoming a parent. I felt like she was constantly attached to me nursing, and with her feeding every 3 hrs through the night (each feed/nappy change taking up to an hour, therefore I was getting 2 hours sleep at a time), I was exhausted and tearful.

We've been trying to encourage her to take BM in a bottle so I can get a break, or go into town by myself without having to hurry back within an hour or 2 incase she wakes. However, she's struggling with the bottle. I have the tommee tippee ones which mimic the breast, but the flow is too fast for her, even on the newborn teat. I'm going to persevere tho! She'll get used to it hopefully.

She also sufers with colic which added to the whole tearful thing for me, nothing I could do would soothe her colic crying, it was horrendous last Sunday night - we only figured on Monday it was colic - so Sunday night after 90 mins of screaming crying, I almost took her to hospital. DH said put her in the car seat and he'd take her out to see if it'd settle her to sleep... as soon as I sat her in the car seat, she conked out for 5 hours

She's been so much better since, the colic has been present but only in 30 mins or less bouts of crying. And we know what it is now. She's been on Infacol medicine to help with it. She hates the medicine, gags on it every time we give it to her But it's for her own good

She's really really enjoyed laying on the floor the last few days, kicking her arms and legs about. It's really sweet to see her so content after all the colic issues.

As for me, this week I feel so much better, I think my "baby blues" kicked in at 4 weeks rather than a few days post-partum. Definately feel much calmer though. I hope to start attending a BFing support group on Friday morning. It runs every Friday 10:30-12, sounds just like a "coffee morning" for mums to share advice & gossip. I'm looking forward to it!

I ordered a sling on Friday, it should arrive tmor morning - I can't wait to try her in it!! I think she'll enjoy it as she likes to be close to my chest and huggled. Our baby clinic is within walking distance, and we're attending weekly for weight & general check-ups just now, so I can't wait to use the sling on Thursday!

DH is still out of work, shhhhh don't tell him... I adore having him home as he's such a help, but I'm looking forward to him going back to work when he finds a job - I need a routine for Kirsty instead of feeding on demand and not doing too much in the house etc. I need a housework routine. My house is a pigsty It's clean but cluttered!!

So, that's my life story

Oh hun, don't beat yourself up. We all go thru that transition into mommyhood. It's such a lifestyle change and it's so easy to get down on yourself and think you're a bad mommy for missing your freedom! It'll get easier once you get your sling and you can hold her with your arms free to do your household chores. But honestly, try to ignore the house as much as you can. It's hard, I know, but try to enjoy these baby days. The days are long, but the years are short. Cherish these times while you can. Try to soak it all up. The house can wait.

For the colic, have you tried the 4 s's? Swaddling, swinging, sucking, and shushing. Get yourself a white noise machine if you don't already have one--or try (once you get the sling) putting her into her sling and vacuuming. The closeness to you, movement, and noise of it is often soothing for babies. It reminds them of the womb. Remember, she is in the 4th trimester right now, adjusting to the outside world, and it calms her to feel as if she's in the womb again.

The rest of it, your adjustment to motherhood, just takes time. It will get easier. I promise! Have you considered taking her out with you on outings, but taking a friend too. That way, you have an extra set of hands to hold her and snuggle her, but you're there in case she gets hungry. That way, you get out of the house, feel like a human being again (rather than a stinky milk machine), and don't have to worry about your little darling.

I wish I was there, I'd love to help you out.

We did try the 4 S's - it didn't work for her, however we managed to get swaddling from it. We did notice when she'd be drifting off to sleep, her hands would touch her face & wake her up. So the swaddling helped preveent that.

I tried the sling again this afternoon, tying it up properly, but she cried Hopefully she'll get used to it the more we used it!

Fi, hopefully shell get use to the sling. Try swaying a little bit when you put her in it if you're not doing that. I have a friend who's little one was fussy whenever she used it but not when her DH was using it. The reason, she found out, was that her DH would sway when her daughter was in it so maybe you could try that and see if it helps.

ITA with Jess about all the other stuff you are feeling. Not that I have any prior experience but it makes perfect sense.
