Is it possible to get a thermal shift and not actually ovulate?

That's a tough one! I can't say for sure, but I would think that you could not sustain a thermal shift without ovulating unless there is some other parameter involved, like medication, a fever, or a broken A/C.

I think so - very rare but I think true. The TCOYF book says any number of charts can happen cause all the different hormones that affect temperature and CM and all that can cause it to look like things are happening when they are not. I would think it would be rare but could happen.

If you are asking in reference to your chart, then I think you definitely ovulated. All the signs (CP, CM, and temps) point to the fact that you O'ed quite clearly. In fact, I think that post O temp dip then climb looks very promising! That's not quite as clear cut as the O temp change, but it can't be a bad sign.

Thanks, this cycle has just been very wonky. The past few days I've been having TONS of cm, like gobs of it which is not my normal post-o thing. It seems to be ew but its not my normal ew--normally its clear, watery, and very stretchy. This is more white, creamy, and gummy. I'm thinking maybe because there's so much of it it's giving the appearance of ew when it's really not. I'd just like to know why there's so much of it. I checked my cervix today and it's very high (almost couldn't reach it) but firm. I can't tell closure with it since I've vaginally birthed 2 babies and its always somewhat open. It's just been an all around very different cycle for me this time so it has me questioning if I even ovulated. Plus today I've been having pains much like my O pains but I had them when my chart says I O'd too. I'm just confused right now.

I think the likelihood of you having weird CM after an O is much higher than a temp shift along with all the other signs of O and not O'ing. I've had strange CM patterns post-O too. They usually come several days after O'ing, just like yours have this cycle. In fact, I had watery CM today (though I entered it as creamy so that FF wouldn't wig out on me), and we O'ed around the same day.

I think as a general rule you should trust a sustained temp rise over wonky CM patterns, especially when the temp shift is as clear as it is in your chart and those wonky post-O CM patterns aren't quite fertile CM, as you described. That has been my experience anyway. Unfortunately, only time will tell. Don't you just hate that!

What your describing can also be pregnancy symptoms for some. With this pregnancy the first thing I noticed was how odd my cervix felt.

I tested yesterday and it was a BFN! I won't be testing again for a while. I thought I remembered getting ew type cm early in my pregnancy with Lochy but I can't remember clearly. Why didn't I write this stuff down!?!?
