Good idea or bad idea? I am thinking bad idea. I'm sure the other beachgoers would love to see me whip a boob out and change poopy diapers and all, but there may be a few weirdos that are not into that.
I NEED the beach this summer though *sigh*

I think its a great idea!!! I will be doing some vacas this summer with our baby... not til she's prob 3=4 months though. We have a 4th of July event in NY that we'll play by ear on going to. And with BFing it'll be easy to feed her, and we'll bring our co-sleeper, and baby sun block
So I think you'll be fine

I'd do it! I've nursed at the beach, the pool, etc. and no one seemed to notice or care really. I got a great nursing bathing suit at motherwear.com!

I would do it! I knew a couple who took a 6 week old from Indiana to Florida and had a great time! I will be taking this little one places all summer and wouldn't hesitate taking him to the beach as well! I think you'll need the break to relax Just remember to keep him in the shade the majority of the time and you'll be good to go!

I would do it. By then you should be comfortable enough with nursing that you can do it discreetly, and probably nobody will even notice! I think it'll be a lot of fun! Just make sure you get a nice shady spot, and one of those shade tents.

I guess I'm the odd one out... by 2 months I had Taylor on a *fairly* decent routine and I would have hated to throw that off. Heck, we went to the beach for a week when she was 10 months old and it was HELL LoL. No more vacations (day trips are ok) until Rylie's at least 18 months LoL. I guess I've just had a bad experience but should you decide to do it I hope it goes well hun, good luck!!!

Go to the beach!!! But if you worried about the people on your end of the world, come to Barbados and go to the beach here.
The only drawback I was told about going to the beach was the need to protect the baby's delicate skin from too much sun exposure since most sunblock lotions are not made for babies so young. Once you can find a nice area that has adequate shading, etc. then you should be great.

We lived in VA Beach when Harrison was a baby and now we live near Wilmington NC - another beach town. We spent and will spend many a days at the beach with our babies. It's pretty easy. However, once Harrison started toddling he was annoyed by the sand and that got annoying for me to keep wiping off his hands. Now he loves the sand and can sit and play in it all day. Each baby is different.
We're taking Nora to Aruba when she's like 4 months old - that's beach time all day everyday for like 10 days! Harrison went his first time when he was 7 months!
It'll be fine - just make sure you have all the right gear.....we read that too much sunscreen on a baby below 6 months is bad for their skin so read up on how to properly protect a baby that young at the beach!

The beach with a 2-month-old would be pretty easy! By that time, you should be able to throw baby into a sling and walk around, or just sit in the sand & watch everyone. I wouldn't recommend surfing or anything though. I also agree with the pp who said that you'll probably be able to nurse fairly discretely by then.
The only thing I would suggest would be to buy a sun-blocking tent for baby. Like the others said, baby's delicate skin really needs extra protection and I'm not sure if sunblock is okay for babies or if it would even be enough to fully protect. I'd buy a sun-blocking tent, and then there'll be a place away from wind that baby can nap as well if need be. I know here it gets super windy at the beach and sand in baby's eyes would not be fun.

ETA: Will you be coming over to Cali? Maybe all of us Cali girls could meet up at the beach!

Jess - great idea about the tent - we have one and loved using it. Here is a pic of Harrison and DH in the tent getting a bottle - he was about 3 months!

We *may* be taking Alice to the beach this summer, depending on how many people will be going. I am not too keen on having my two or three-month old surrounded by little kids (germaphobe!), so it depends on if that side of the family comes this year.

I would say go for It Michelle, However you may feel differently at the time. I know when Cambria was 2 months I wouldn't have been able to do it.
