My job changed their insurance plan recently, and my old obgyn didn't take the new insurance. I really, really liked my old obgyn as they knew all about FAM, and didn't push hormonal methods. This new obgyn is the complete opposite. I really don't like them at all, and will probably switch, again.

I have had extremely heavy AF's (tmi ahead), as in soaking through a super plus tampon every hour or more, and having grape sized clots for a day or two. And then I spot for a week before AF, and have short LP's. I tried to explain that my LP's were short, but she said that didn't matter. This is all new, and has only been happening since october 2007, since I lost Marina.

All my bloodwork, iron, and ultrasound came back completely normal. She said it was exactly normal, actually. But I did mention that I was TTC with my ex for 8 cycles without getting pregnant, and she said that didn't matter, either. She said I probably had the timing wrong.

She suggested giving me back to back shots of depo to even out my cycles. She said, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but usually it works. Has anyone ever heard of this? I figure the good news is that all my hormone levels and uterus is normal, with no real reason for the spotting. I turned down the depo shot, as I do horrible with hormonal BC, and I thought depo made things worse, not better. I'm so confused!

ehhhh I do not like what she said!!! For one, if she doens't know FAM and isn't familar with it, I would say switch! Thats how my last OB was. And I found my awesome midwife, who after I have my baby I will stay with for all my annual exams and such.

I don't like how she suggested giving you depo that "may" or "may not" work... sounds a little bit sketchy, like she's just trying stuff. And for you to tell her you were TTC for 8 mons and didn't get preggo, then she said maybe bad timing??? No, you were charting and had perfect timing! Sorry but I would switch and immediately. Hopefully you can find someone who you trust and like that accepts your new insurance!

Yeah, if my doc weren't familiar with FAM, I'd switch. Maybe it's just me, but that is INCREDIBLY important in TTC and if she doesn't seem to think so, then I just would have a hard time trusting her opinion. If she understood FAM, then she wouldn't write off your EIGHT CYCLES of trying to 'just bad timing' especially when its coupled with abnormal clotting/heavy AF/short LP,etc. OF COURSE having a short LP matters when TTC and trying to understand your cycle. I think you should find a new doctor. I also don't think that depo shot is the answer to everything - did she even listen to you when you told her you've not handled hormonal bc well int he past? ugh! she frustrates me. lol

Sounds fishy "this may or may not work" well heck I could hit you in the ovaries and "it may or may not help!" LOL. I have heard of putting women on BCP to get their cycles more normal--but DEPO---that drug CAUSES most people's cycles to go wacky---I had to take BCP to FIX the depo! Plus she doesn't know what FAM is and thinks 8 months of TTC is nothing.....I have to say a second opinion sounds pretty good.

I don't know about this doc. It may just be the way it's coming across it the post but she seems a bit dismissive of your concerns. I'm in agreement with the others that you probably should see someone else.

from what i have researched hormonal BC of any kind isnt really regulating a woman's cycle, its just inducing a withdrawal bleed each month that mimics the real shedding of the uterine lining. This fact has always come to mind when I hear people talk about 'regulating' their cycles using hormonal BC, it doesnt really make sense to me since your real cycles arent even happening when you are on hormonal BC. Also, i've heard terrible things about Depo, that it can cause long term health issues. Me personally I would avoid Depo, though I am sure it might have certain therapeutic uses where the side effects are outweighed by the benefits of being on it.

I am very sorry you are still going through this. Switching doctors sux totally--I'm there too trying to find a new family doc. It is near impossible, actually. But it is worth it when you find the right one. I had three nurses reinforce my decision to find a new doc this weekend. They all agreed that you need a doctor you can trust or you won't go. Good luck to you!

Find a new doc! You had 8 unsuccessful cycles of TTC and a late miscarriage. My ob/gyn was ready to send me to an RE just because I hadn't gotten pg in 6 cycles of NTNP when I was with Zack. And she looked over my charts and we talked about Clomid even though I wasn't ready to TTC yet. It sounds like your new ob/gyn is way off base.
