I don't believe it, my little guy is here! I wish I could have let you ladies know when I went into labor, but it all happened so fast. Thursday morning I had my doctor's appointment and stress test and there were no signs of impending labor.....no dilation. Thursday early evening, my husband wanted to "encourage" Toby's arrival by being "intimate", if you know what I mean....shortly afterward, I started feeling what I later realized were mild contractions. As Thursday evening wore on, the contractions came closer together and were more intense. By early Friday morning, they came every 2-3 minutes apart and were almost unbearable. I called my doctor and they had me come into the office and turns out I'm already 4 cm dilated!!!! I am then checked into the labor and delivery ward right away and an hour later I am 5 cm dilated. I try to control my pain as best I can, but the pain becomes so unbearable. I tried so hard to make it without an epidural, but I felt that I was losing my mind. I did get an epidural, and after that I didn't feel much pain and within a few hours I was fully dilated and ready for Toby. The pushing, though, was so hard and exhausting.......he was born 8 pounds 11 ounces, and he was just not getting through my birth canal. I tried and tried, and my doctor gave me one more push until she would do an episiotomy........I gave it my all and Toby came out!!!!
He is so, so beautiful.....I never imagined him to look this perfect He is lying right now on top of my arms as I am writing this, all swaddled and satisfied. We took many pictures, and I will post them for you guys as soon as I can. I just came home a few hours ago from the hospital.......overall, I had such a wonderful experience with everything. I am feeling really emotional today....nostalgic, mostly, because I am no longer pregnant Going through infertility has made me treasure my pregnancy so, so much......and as thrilled as I am to have my precious guy here, I can't help having tears over the loss of my first pregnancy and the excitment of labor and meeting my special baby that I waited so long to meet. It's so special....the first baby. Definately treasure your pregnancies and first few days ladies..........no matter what the discomforts, it's the best experience in the world.
Thank you for being so supportive of me all this time through everything. Now I am going to have all these parenting questions. One thing I'm concerned about is breastfeeding.....since his birth Toby has been a very sleepy baby, and he goes through many hours without wanting a feeding. Me and the nurses have tried to encourage him, but he just wants to sleep. I read that it can be normal, and that within a few days he will want to feed more frequently. If you guys have any advice, that would be awesome....we are worried that he isn't getting enough nutrition. And I'll post pictures of my guy soon

Awww, congrats!!
As for waking him for a feeding, try changing him, and taking his clothes off right before a feeding. The cold kind of wakes them up. Elsa was a sleepy baby too, but by day 3-4 at home she had NO problem waking up to eat!

Congrats on your little man - I can't believe it all happened so fast! So excited for pics....and I agree with Alison - get him a bit undressed to wake him up and he should be feeling like eating more! Good luck - keep us posted!

Congrats! I can't wait to see pictures of you and your little guy.
How far along were you when you had him? About 41 weeks?

congrats!!!!!!!!!!!! Kirsty was the same the first few days with being sleepy. I was told to wake her every 3 hours to feed her as she was jaundiced.... waking her was impossible! But I agree with the others, I would change her nappy and strip her down to her vest. Also, try rubbing the palm of his hand with you thumb, or gently poke him in his neck, just below his ear. I know it sounds harsh! Someone told me to do this and it did help at times. But definately strip him down!
