Opinions please!

DH and I bought an infant car seat that is being discontinued from alot of stores. I contacted the company and they claim the seat is still safe and hasn't been recalled or anything. They are making new fabric patterns and a sleeker design. ANYWAYS, my MIL has been trying to find the coordinating base but it's nearly impossible.

I've always heard to never buy used car seats. What do you think about buying new car seat bases from Ebay?

I would buy from Ebay if it was an Ebay shop and not just an individual - does that make sense? I.e. have they got lots of car seats & bases for sale? Search through the shop listings. I nearly bought a combination rear/forward facing one from Ebay before I bought my travel system (and would have done had I not got my infant car seat with the system).

I got our Britax Marathon on eBay, but from a store, not an individual. It was manufactured in Jan 09. I know some people would be weirded out by eBay, but I feel totally safe with it. I saved $100.
