I'm stressing about what size clothes to buy Oliver. There is a sale at the Children's Place and I want to get him some summer/fall outfits. Right now he is wearing 6-9 months or 9 months. Should I get him 12 months for summer and 18 months for fall/winter? He is slim and long. I don't want to waste money on something he won't get much use out of.

It's hard to figure out. Lochlann is slim and long too and although lengthwise 18-24 months fits him they're too big around his waiste. Although with the cloth diapers they should be able to hold up pants/shorts and things better. I would get some 9 month stuff for early summer and mostly 9-12 month for the bulk of the summer. Or if you don't mind things being a tad big just get all 9-12 month. The fall/winter will be harder. Lochlann still mostly wears 12-18 months and he's 20 months old. But when he's wearing a cloth diaper the 18 month pants don't fit. It's a shame you can't hold out a bit longer to see how he'll continue to grow. Lochlann changed how he grew starting at 9 months--he started slowing down a lot. So I guess if it was me I would get a couple 9 months and mostly 12 months for summer and some 12 months and mostly 18 months for winter. I find Children's Place tends to run big though...

Thanks Jenn! I just bought a few things. I bought 12 months for summer & 18 months for winter. I hope it works out. If they are huge maybe I can return or exchange them.

I ordered some 12 month stuff from TCP last night to use this summer - Ben is starting to fit into his 12 month stuff with room to grow. He has slowed down A TON in growth since he was 6 months old. I think you should be okay with the 12 month stuff for this summer!

I found that around 9 months Harrison was started wearing 12 months clothes and then around 14 months he started walking and slimmed down and remained in his 12 months clothes for a really long time. Then went he got to be around 2 he finally started wearing 18 months and now at 3 he still wearing 18-24 months....we're getting more into 2T a bit but no way can he wear 3T like most three year olds....so you never know. My boy is short though (like his mommy and Daddy - so we have that to contend with on pants). He's wearing the same shorts so far this spring as he wore last spring/summer!

Thanks for the offer. I would not want to take away from your future baby's clothes though.

I had the same dilema in Children's Place yesterday. Reid is also long and slim, so the shorts that I bought were size 6-9m and shirts were all 12m. However, I was mainly looking for things that he can wear right now and this Summer. I'm not thinking about Fall yet.

I think it all depends on how he grows..

If he's long, I'd go with 18 or 24 months, maybe even 2T for the winter. There are kids in my PR that are in 2T and 3T. Mostly the tall kids. If he's short, I'd stick with 12 months.. Adriana falls into the short category... She's almost 19 months old and she can still wear 12 month clothing.. She is slowly starting to transition to 18 month clothing, but 24 month clothing is out of the question.. Just way to long and big..

I learned last year not to buy lots of clothes in advance.. Adriana was a late September baby and I thought that she would be wearing size 12 months during last summer.. I was wrong.. She was only in size 6-9 months. All of her 12 month summer clothing was way to big and she never wore them. But 12 month clothing fit wondefully in Fall/Winter/ and Spring. If I do buy cloths in advance, I buy the size for her age..
