Where do you draw the line of what you will and won't use/re-use?

I'm asking because my MIL thinks I'm being ridiculous. She kept wanting to buy Liam more underwear and I told her no that he had enough and wasn't ready for the next size yet. She said that's ok, you can't have too much underwear and Loch will wear it next anyway. I was completely grossed out and said he will definitely NOT be wearing Liam's hand me down underwear. She thought I was being silly and frivilous (sp?) that I don't want my son wearing used underwear even if it is from his brother. She doesn't think its a big deal because they're little and they don't know the difference. I think its a huge deal. I won't have my children wearing anything used that I would wear used. I think each person deserves their own underwear (socks fall in this category too--except infant socks) no matter how old they are. Now the training pants I will reuse because they were used for about a week tops and they're white cotton and I can bleach them.

What do you think? Am I being ridiculous refusing to hand down underwear?

No you're not weird because I used the same cloth diapers on both boys and didn't have a problem doing so.

Somehow the underwear is just different to me.

Underwear seems different to me too! I've known people who actually buy it from yard sales That is really bad!

I don't think its a big deal for siblings as long as they are not in bad shape or have been pooped in a million times lol! But I don't think your being ridiculous at all.

Ok, thanks for helping me feel less crazy about this!

I think I'm going to chalk this up to just my MIL being nutso again. I love her like a second mother but she can really drive me batty sometimes!

She thinks its ok to share underwear but completely freaks out when I let the boys play in mud. Or, God forbid, I let them walk around the yard with nothing on their feet (usually this is when they're in and out of the little pool). She practically has a heart attack about that!

Then I'm reminded of the time shortly after Loch was born. She was watching Liam so I could catch a quick nap with the baby and when I mentioned giving Liam a bath that night since he was playing outside all afternoon, she told me she already gave him one. He did not smell like he just had a bath so I asked her "did you use soap?" She said no, just water. I had to tell her, well that's not a bath!

Like I said, she can really drive me nuts!

The first thing I thought was what about cloth diapers? That is almost worse the underwear when you think about it. Most kids don't poop/pee in their underwear. I know I would never want to wear used underwear! Yuck. I don't have a problem with cloth diaper sharing. I guess if I had two boys and the underwear were in brand new condition I would most likely use them. I can see it both ways.

He's been wearing this underwear for almost a year now and doesn't look like he'll be growing out of it anytime soon. He's had some accidents in them (pee and poop) when he was newly taught. So I think by the time he outgrows them and Loch is ready for underwear they will have been used a lot.

I don't know. Just the thought of sharing underwear grosses me out. When I lived at home my Mom would sometimes take my underwear if she was doing wash and didn't have any left. I would never take it back. Even though she's my Mom it was uber disgusting to me.

And that's gross about the yard sale underwear Krista! Who does that???

ETA: I think my feeling about being ok with the cloth diapers and training pants sharing is they are both white cotton and can be bleached. I can't bleach the underwear.

Used undies are gross to me, as are used diapers Dh's now old exfriend(she was using us a few months back) tried to sell a big huge bag of old used thongs at a yard sale last summer...gross.
I'm pretty sure my brothers didn't share undies, they are 3.75yrs apart though. I wont even buy used bras unless I really really have to(I.e only a couple dollars to spend(like 2-3))

Yeah, I had no problem with my boys sharing diapers but I wouldn't buy used diapers to use for them. I guess its a personal hang-up.
