You'll notice they only compare 2 aspects of sposie vs. cloth. They compare water usage (cloth) to landfill waste (sposie). That may very well equal a tie. However, there are other aspects that need to be compared. A huge aspect is the production of each. Creating a disposable diaper requires trees, crude oil, and other natural resources. They are also manufactured in a factory that not only emits pollution, but also uses vast quantities of water (the very argument against cloth).

Now, sposie advocates will argue that creating cloth diapers also require factories that also emit pollution and use water. However, look at the number required for each baby. A baby will use approximately 8000 sposies from birth to potty training. A cloth baby will use maybe 90 diapers (assuming they are all sized) from birth thru potty training, and these same dipes are often passed down and re-used on additional children, sold to others to re-use, or even converted into rags. So creating sposies for 1 child produces much more pollution and uses many more natural resources than creating cloth for 1 child.

Then those sposies are boxed up (or bagged) and shipped to hundreds of thousands of stores all over the country, using up fuel and creating more pollution and waste.

When looking at all aspects of the environmental comparison, cloth is clearly the more friendly option. Then when you factor in the health benefits and cost savings, cloth is without question the better option.

^ I agree with Jess. I did not get a chance to watch the whole video because I'm at work and can't turn the volume up.

One thing that I love about cloth diapers is the convience. I know most people would think the opposite. I love that I always have diapers on hand and don't have to worry about running out to buy them each week/month. All I have to do is throw them in the wash and I'm set for a couple more days.
