Guess what!?! I found a work at home job and I think it's looking really good. I did some testing on line for my typing skills and had a phone interview yesterday. I'm at my current job and a lady just called about faxing over a form for employment verification. It's for data entry. It's for a company called Affiliated Computer Services Affiliated Computer Services (ACS): Business Process and Information Technology Outsourcing Services. There is a local location in my area. I would train for 2 weeks starting May 18th at this location and then they give me a computer to use in my own home. Training is M-F 4-8PM. They are a fortune 500 company and I would get benefits. It'sincentive based compensation. I get paid for each data entry I input. It's based on accuracy and quanity. There are 3 shifts to pick from: 8AM-2PM, 2PM-8PM, or 8PM-2AM. I'm not a late night person but I'm thinking about going for the 8PM-2AM to start. That way I can have Oliver in bed. I'm really worried about the lack of sleep.

The pay is about half of what I'm making at my current job. We don't have much money left over after paying the bills as it is. That is the bad part. BUT, I do not expect to find a work at home job making what I make here. I want SOO badly to find a way to make this work. I'm thinking about doing the training because I can most likely leave work early for a couple weeks and see what happens. Then I can start working from home at night and keep my current job for awhile. I know that is crazy because of the hours! Maybe I can find another PT job or keep trying to find a child to watch in my home during the day. I just feel that this is something I can't pass up because it's very hard to find work at home.

What do you all think?

That would be awesome!! Having a lower income would be difficult but maybe you could make it happen somehow? I hope it works out!

I think it sounds like a great opportunity and I know I'd have a hard time passing it up if I were you. I think you will find a way to make this work and you will be so much happier being able to spend the extra time with Oliver. I would still look for another child to watch during the day too. Between the data entry and watching another little one you could definitely make things work! I'm excited for you!!!

Oh I'm so glad you found a WAHM opportunity! They're hard to find and I know how badly you want to be home more with Oliver! That does suck about the pay cut though -- does it have benefits too at least?

It sounds like it will be rough if you try to do it while you are still working (or maybe just when you are doing the training), but after you leave your current job, you could do the 2-8pm shift. How do those shifts work around Damon's schedule? The 8pm-2am one sounds kind of hard When would you sleep?? Does it HAVE to be between those hours, or could you just do it at your convienience?

I do think it's a good opporunity though, you just need to find a way to make it work, which I'm sure you can do!

I am really happy that you are close to finding a way to stay home with Oliver. I know how badly you want it

There are benefits. They have health insurance but I'm not sure if it's for me only or if there is a family plan. Right now we are on Damon's health insurance. I believe there is paid time off and holiday pay too but I will have to ask if I get offered the position.

I don't know how I would get any sleep. My plan is to still work my current job and sign up for the 8PM to 2AM shift. They said that they are flexible with starting a shift early or late when needed. I just don't know how flexible they are if you need it to start early ALL the time. I plan to ask about it if I get the position. It would be nice if I could do both jobs so that we can pay off some debt. It would make the pay cut a lot easier.

Thats great news!! I think the 8pm-2am shift wont be bad. But if you are working your regular job too...now that will be a hard. Maybe you can work 10-6 at your other job so you can sleep a little longer (assuming Oliver doesnt have you up anyhow, haha).

It sounds like a great opportunity but I'm not sure about working the two jobs and not being a zombie but where there's determination, there's a way.

I do want to add that even though I understand you concerns I hope you think this through really carefully if you decide to give up your other job...with all that's been happening with the recession. I was talking to one of DH's aunts who lives in the US and she was saying that things are really bad in some areas. She works with a church and she was talking about people losing their jobs and really struggling to make ends meet. They do a Feed the Hungry program, that's not the name but I can't remember the exact name and she said the number of persons coming in have quadrupled. She also helps with counseling some of the families and helping them create budgets and she said it was heartbreaking to see what families were going through. I began to think of Breanna and some other ladies from this site and I was just saying that I really hope things work out because it's so sad. I was actually going to create a post on this when I came on this morning.

So, please make sure you write up a budget to see how you and DH can make ends meet if you decide to move to a job that's paying less and that it's really doable.

I really, really hope that a great opportunity arises for you because I understand how important it is for you to be with Oliver. I just felt that I needed to say the above after my conversation. I don't know a lot of you in person but I certainly feel like you're my friends and I want to be honest with my thoughts.

I have already been thinking about everything you said above. I'm going to make sure it's something that will work and not cause any major financial problems for us. That is part of the reason why I think I should test it out for some time before giving up my current position. My Mother lost her banking job do to cut back and there is a lot of competition for jobs right now. I have been applying to places and have not had any call back besides this one. Usually I have no problems getting interviews.

Update! I just got an email that I'm being offered the position. The last step is passing a background. After they see that I passed the background check I will start training on the 18th of this month. Now I have to talk to my boss about leaving work 1 hr early for two weeks. I'm not telling him about this new job. I'm going to have to come up with a good reason. I'm thinking about saying that Damon has some training for his job.

Congrats!! I'm sure you will find a good lil lie to be able to leave early for a couple of weeks. When does that start?

Good luck with everything! I'm sure you will get through!!!

Be sure that you aren't in the view of others when you leave to go to the training if not that could backfire on you. And make sure that you Damon knows your excuse just in case someone should ask him anything.
