And it was NOT fun!!
Ive been having BH contractions for about a week now..normally 2-4 a day. Well then monday I had a total of 9. I kinda got worried, tuesday I had 2 already by 1pm so I called my doc to talk a nurse, she told me if I have more than 3 an hour to call back!

Then about 4pm I started having them again. They were coming every 10 minutes just about..they didnt hurt so I really figured they were BH, but they were annoying!! So I called the service after two hours (haha) and they wanted to come in!

It was annoying being there! The Dr I talked to when I called just said they were gonna check me...boy did they do a whole lot more than just check me!!

First I had to pee in a cup, no bigg. Then she took some blood, and OMG this nurse was SOOOO rude!! Some how she brought up about me getting an IV when I come in, in actual labor..and I was quick to tell her that I wouldnt be having one, that I talked to my doctor and he told me it was fine that I didnt have one..well she made a hugeee thing about it saying how he can say one thing but they WILL do a different thing!! Of course she used a scaretic saying that if I hemorage after I had her they wouldnt be able to get the IV in so I WOULD be having one, no matter what I wanted. I hate to tell that lady but OVER MY DEAD BODY will I have an IV unless there is a medical reason for me to have it! This is also the time she blew out my vein. I have GREAT veins too, I never experienced pain like that and Im super pissed that my arm is looking like it is!

Then it took forever to get me "registered" whatever that means! Finally they came in and were gonna check me..and she completely threw off the blanket that was covering me so I was COMPLETELY exposed!! It was soooo rude, and the 2 nurses just stood over me talkin while Im completely naked from the waist down. I was NOT happy!! Then they did like 90 swabs which HURT and she even stabbed me with one! OMG Im actually surprised that Im not bleeding from it, cuz it really really hurt!! Once they were done I asked if I could put my pants back on cuz it was cold and I was uncomfortable enough as it was..she said yes..

But what does that B do!? Hook me up to moniters so I couldnt put my pants back on!

Before that though, it took her FIVE minutes to find Kennedis heart beat!! I was freakin out!! She moved that thing all over my belly over and over again, and nothing. No sound. She picked up my heart beat a few times but not Kennedis!! I was on the verge of tears when she got the doppler and found it in 2 seconds flat. I seriously was havin flash backs to Olivia!

She then she put on the other moniter that checks for contractions or whatever. So I was stuck in bed. After half hour she asked if I wanted any juice, and man did I!! I knew Kennedi was gonna go crazy cuz she always does when I have apple juice, and boy did she give that nurse a run for her money! She was constantly coming back to fix the moniter cuz she was moving all the place hiding on her!! Serves her right!!

One time she even flipped the blanket off me that was covering my naked down under, and of course my friend got a good view!! I mean come on lady!! She was soooo friggin rude, I hate her!!

So I passed the NST. It was pretty boring. They did that test too that will tell you if you will go into labor in the next 2 weeks, and it came back negative!! WOOOHOOO! Im not allowed to have sex! Thats funny cuz Im a virgin as it is!! And thats bout it.

Im just really upset about how she treated me. So upset that I want to switch doctors so I dont deliver at that hospital! I love my doctor like truly love, but Im so scared about labor now! I dont want to be treated like that again..and I could only imagine what she would do if she was my nurse when I had Kennedi! She would probably do everything I told her NOT to do with her!!

Oh wow hun, I'm sorry she was so rude to you. I had a nurse blow out my vein when getting my IV this last time in the hospital and it sucked. I can't wait to see little Kennedi

Did you catch her name? When you go into labor be sure to say you don't want her helping you! The second time I went to L and D was horrible for me. The nurse said "I don't like that I can hear your heartbeat over his" and then left the room in a panic. I made sure she wasn't around me on my big day. They blew out one of my veins on delivery day, it seriously hurts

Glad things are okay!

What an ordeal! I'm glad all is well with you and Kennedi. If possible and you did get her name, see if you can request for her not to be around when you go to deliver.

That almost sounds like what happened when I was sick at 18 weeks and went in.

They made me WALK (while vomiting/having contractions and complaining my kidneys were on fire) half way around the hospital to get to L&D. Not to mentioned when I got there, Before I could even go back, I had to "register" and they were like Here talk on the phone to this lady! While I am in the middle of vomiting mind you. When they FINALLY took me in the back, I knew I needed an IV cause i was super dehydrated (#1 cause of BH's) and they girl left the tourniquet on my arm so long I started to get light headed and started passing out! It sucked lol.

They make you pee in a cup to make sure theres no bladder infection cause UTI's cause BH's too.

(And don't worry about 9 BH's -- that's nothing. I've been having 30+ or so a day now for quite some time and all is well with me :-))

What other hospitals are in your area that you can deliver at?

that's terrible! i dont understand why its so hard for medical people (i realize its a generality an di'm sure there are many good ones - i luv u angelawhomarriedanerd & alice etc!) to just respect peoples wishes. It's such a simple concept, have respect for your fellow human beings! A person's most intrinsic right to have control over her body is not something to take lightly. Scoffing at something that someone has painstakingly thought about and decided is right for them is just terrible, and saying that your decisions wouldnt be respected Nikki is downright rude and ignorant. Most certainly avoid that nurse when ur there to deliver, but know that there are lovely nurses out there who are respectful.

What a horrible nurse! I'm so sorry you had to go through all that.

On the up side, don't worry about the BHs. They are par for the course for some women and I'm one of them so I know how frustrating/annoying they can be. I got them starting at 20 weeks with Liam and 17 weeks with Loch. By the time I was as far along as you are they were averaging like every 15 minutes. And neither of my boys was premature.

I would definitely request NOT to have that nurse near you when you go into labor. Do you think your age was a factor in the way you were treated? My Mom was 19 when she got married and 20 when my brother was born and she was treated horribly when she was in labor--nurses yelled at her, condescended to her, and talked down to her because she was young. Don't stand for that! You do not deserve to be treated that way!

And don't let them scare you into anything you don't want and isn't medically necessary. I did hemorrhage after both boys (worse after Loch) and while I did have an IV in place (routine for the hospital and I was GBS+ with Loch at the birth center or I wouldn't have had one) there is no reason why an IV couldn't have been put in after delivery when I needed it.

Awww, I'm sorry it wasn't good! I had the same doctor with both the boys and she was awful. I only went back with Preston because I thought I was overly hormonal the first time, but I see now she's just a b. I'm glad she was around for the birth of either of my boys. Hopefully the real deal will be better!

What a terrible way to spend your 21st birthday! Glad Kennedi got the nurse back for treating her mommy so crappy! I hope you can get something figured out so you dont have to deal with that nurse ever again!

hey before jumping the guns here - check out the other hospital first before switching! I bet that one nurse not being there during your delivery would make all the difference! Find out her name and ask for her not to be in there!

being in the hospital is no fun at all, the tests and exams aren't supposed to be a day at the beach, should they hurt? probably not but it's going to happen every now and then. I will agree with the nurse that when the doctor says you don't have to get an iv and the nurse says you will, there's a good chance that you will. I have doctors tell my patients things all the time and then I go in and have to do the exact opposite because it's policy or it's something that has to be done because of a treatment that has been ordered.

i've had a doctor tell the patient that no he/she wouldn't need a catheter and then grabbed the chart and wrote to place a catheter and I then had to explain why.

don't worry it's not because the nurse wants to put the iv in it's really not that fun, it's because she has to. it's safer for both you and kennedi that you have one.

she was very rude to just rip the blanket off of you and expose you to your friend she should have warned you and your friend could have moved. if her tone was rude and some of the things she said to you were rude I would request not to have her as a nurse when you go in.

you should have asked her if she was having a bad day and maybe she would have gotten the hint. i've done that with people who work in retail when they are beyond rude and sometimes it works

i hope your next visit goes well, hopefully she isn't working when you go in.

What hospital did you go to? I'd be mortified if this nurse is from my beloved RGH!
Sorry you had a bad experience! BTW- Give birth at my hospital so I can come visit you!!!

ETA: Try not to hate on the nurses too much about the IV thing. At most hospitals it's protocol for every patient to have a saline lock. We can get into serious doo-doo if we don't follow floor protocol, though I'm sure the nurse could have stated the reason a little more politely. You should hear how hard it is to convince 24 hour stay cardiac patients that they need that thing. They really don't, but it's my butt on the line if they refuse. It really has nothing to do with the doctors, just hospitals and insurance companies.

Wow what a thing to go through! Can you deliver at a different hospital with your dr? I know with my midwife, I had the choice of 2-3 hospitals she belongs to.

Good luck and I can't wait to meet your princess!!!
