Okay, here's what happened... our stupid neighbors to our left SUCK! My stepdad nicely offered to come mow our grass for us last week, and he accidentally mowed like HALF A FOOT too far over into our neighbor's yard. Seriously, like SIX INCHES. I apologized to the wife, and she said something along the line's of "Oh, no problem", and I thought it was over. Well, then a few days ago, the husband is out there mowing... and he mows like two feet further over than usual! And he mowed his yard diagonally for the first time ever... I guess to show us that it was their yard? Anyway... so he mowed OUR yard, he was clearly over the property line by at least a foot and a half. I just let it go, because I really don't want to have bad blood with our neighbors. I haven't said one thing to them about the incident except for sincerely apologizing to the wife, to which she completely let us off the hook nicely.

But today, guess what this freaking idiot did?!?! He put a long, thick BRIGHT RED line of PAINT on OUR grass! He thinks that it is where the line is, I guess. But it is a thick line of bright red all the way down our front yard! It looks ridiculous and embarassing, and it is clearly on our property. UGHHHH!!! What do we do? Should I hire a surveyor to completely end this? Or let it go?

Wow, they sound crazy. First of all... maybe I'm missing something - but I don't get what the big deal is about cutting someone else's grass or them cutting yours... isn't that like, nice? Nice that you mowed a strip of their lawn so they don't have to do it? Vice versa? My parents had a deal with our old neighbors where we mowed part of their property and they did ours, b/c of where the pine islands were it was just easier for both of us that way.

My parents had a different neighbor that we had issues with and they actually called the surveyors our to say where who's land was... but they're batsit crazy. We just plaanted trees along the lines once they were drawn so there was no more of that. You could give that a go. I would probably talk to them first though, if I could control my temper and find out WHY they drew the line. I mean, we kinda know why... but explain it was a simple mistake, you apologized, and really... it was a NICE mistake to have - it worked out to their advantage, right? This seems silly.

Sorry you're neighbors suck!

Ugh, I know! I didn't think they would get that stupid over it... I mean, he did some WORK for you! And it wasn't like my stepdad totally messed it up or something... he just mowed it.

I really dunno how to handle it though. Red paint all over my front yard!

Pics are needed for sure. I would go and say, I'm sorry we had accidentally mowed your yard before but the bright red divider i unnecessary. Then I would let them know that I'll get a land surveyor to come and point out the separation.

I don't like to make issues with neighbors either but your neighbors seem petty and I'd want to end it there.

Wow...I would call somewhere to get property lines for your property. I wouldnt even bother with the neighbor. Are these neighbors known to be mean like this? how old are they? Does he take pride in his yard??

His yard is an average yard... he planted a few bunches of tulips right in front of their window, but thats about it. Nothing special... They are probably early thirties... two cute kids, nice big SUVs, don't talk much... basically they go out of their ways to ignore the neighbors. Which is cool with me, I don't really feel the need to be besties with my neighbors or whatever, but still. Anyone know where I can find a land surveyor?

Wow, that's crazy! I'd probably just mow off the painted part and get a surveyor in. We have dealt with some crazy, nasty neighbors too and it's not fun. Your best bet is to get this property line taken care of and then ignore the morons.

I found one but I am not sure if they do small properties- their website seems more like a construction-surveyor type thing. I will call my real estate agent tomorrow and get him on it.
