The CVS procedure went as well as expected. First, they did an ultrasound and there was our baby, looking like... a baby! We got to see and hear the heartbeat which was 165 bpm. Baby measured AHEAD at 12w3d. I was pretty surprised to hear that! I guess I'm doing something right if it's growing ahead of schedule. We only got one take-home picture:
We are sure to get some better pics at our regular OB 12-week appointment tomorrow.
The CVS itself was pretty painful, but quick. Based on the placenta's location (which is far, far away from the cervix, thank goodness) the doctor opted to go through the abdominal wall, rather than through the cervix. So first, she injected a local anesthetic and then using the ultrasound as a guide, she inserted a long, thin needle into my lower abdomen and into the uterus. I did not feel it go into my skin, but could feel pinching pressure through the abdominal muscles and then some pain when it went through the uterine wall. Once the needle was inserted into the placenta, she pumped the needle thingy up and down to get some cells into the needle (I'm fuzzy on details because I was not looking and pretty much concentrating on not passing out during this part). Then she pulled it out and it was over. She had to check the specimen first to make sure she got the right tissue. Luckily she had, so they put a bandaid on me and sent me home.
Now, I have been vegging and enjoying my rare day off work... my ab muscles are feeling pretty sore so I am trying not to make any sudden moves, definitely won't be hiking any mountains today.
They give FISH results (the major trisomies and Down Syndrome as well as sex chromosomes) within 48 hours, but those are not the results we're interested in. WE will have to wait 9 days for the full karyotype. That is when we will know if this baby has been affected by DH's balanced translocation.

Well, we are going to wait the 9 days on the sex too... the reason being if the genes come back unbalanced, and we need to terminate, I don't want to know the sex. I think it will be easier on me not to know. So it's only after we get the all-clear on chromosomes 1 and 5 that I will let them tell me about the X's and Y's.

That makes sense. I will be hoping you get nothing but great news. I think the 90% odds are great, but I understand if you don't want to get your hopes up or anything so I will just hush up
sending good test result ((((((vibes)))))))

Kyle, if I were you my knees would have been knocking I would have been so nervous! They probably would have had to cart me in in a wheel chair! You're a courageous woman!
I know nine days must seem like a long time right about now... I hope you get great news!!!

I'm glad the procedure went well. I know these next 9 days will drag by, so I hope that you are able to stay occupied so that it doesn't feel quite as long.
Your baby is ADORABLE! What a great photo!
I can't wait to find out the gender!

Your baby looks precious in the ultrasound picture. You are so brave to have gone through that. I will be thinking of you and I just hope that everything turns out good with the results.
