How cool! I'm her prego support person so I went with her to the appt, oh her midwife seems so nice. I really hope i can use the same midwife when I get pregnant. It was so great hearing all about the midwives philosophy of care and just talking with her about all the prego stuff! The midwife thinks SIL is 18 weeks along rather than 16, but shes not 100% sure on it until she sees her previous ultrasound. SIL also likely missed out on the downs testing and all that 1st trimester stuff, but she also has no idea what tests her family doc performed on her initially. oh well, i'm just glad shes in the care of a professional now.

I have most definitely reconfirmed my plan to use a midwife in the future. Not to mention the office was chalk full of adorable little newborns - i was going 'awe!!' every time i turned around heheh

Your SIL is very lucky to have you looking out for her and the baby. I bet your baby fever is at an all time high! Wait until that little one is born.

I'm glad you had a wonderful time with the Midwife..

I saw my first midwife a few months ago.. I was not impressed at all.. I'm high risk though.. She wasn't vary knowledgeable about my situation.. That was a turn off for me..

Midwifes are so great....mine was amazing through my miscarriage and is excited to see us when we are pregnant again. She is also 6 months pregnant though so I might not get to see her for a few visits!

yes my baby fever is totally raging, especially with seeing her little belly growing and growing! Sadly I will be halfway around the world when she is due, but there's a small chance I might be able to be at her birth - if she goes late. if i am there for the birth i think i would just go home and BEG my dh for a babe. hehe. i also think i'm gaining baby weight! she buys all this stuff that i never buy and i find myself eating it haha its like angela's (who married the nerd)husbands baby belly from that other thread lol

Her midwife calls it the 18-20 week ultrasound so she will be booking it any time now. She's not finding out the gender so we are on Team Green! teehee.

Her midwife also said that midwives (in general? or maybe just in ontario? hm i'm not sure what she meant) are experts in 'normal' pregnancies and births. So they can easily spot high risk situations, and when they occur they usually consult other sources or refer to a specialist. Adriana's mom, maybe thats why your midwife was a bit uneasy about dealing with high risk?

My SIL actually gets 4 midwives, 2 primary and 2 backup. She will see the primary ones each every other appointment, but they do this so that they never have to cancel a clinic appointment because the midwife is at a birth. The midwives take turns, one week one of the primary midwives is in clinic only and not available for births while the other primary is on call for births only that same week & the following week it switches. I thought the system was awesome, and covered all the bases. For some reason SIL was feeling down after the appt though, but i dont think it had to do with the midwife, i think she just wants someone to give her that kernel of information that will tell her who the father is but IMO based on the info she has available she'll never know without testing. my heart breaks for her because i know she wants the best for the baby.
