...ummm, a baby. Baby’s gender is still unknown. I drank a sugary decaf mocha and a glass of OJ before going in, but baby was fast asleep curled up in a ball (back towards us) when we got there. The sonographer sent me away to chug a can of regular Coke and take a walk. Baby woke up a bit and flipped around, but she said all she could see was the genital tubercle that hadn’t differentiated yet. I’m not sure if I believe her- I think she just didn’t want to be wrong. She wouldn’t even hazard a guess. Surely, it must be a penis at 16.5 weeks? I go back for a free recheck scan in 11 days (at 18 weeks). Baby looked great though! We got 14 amazing pictures, including some 4D ones. It was great to see baby was doing well, and I have about 3 scans (gender, OB recheck, and anomaly) scheduled in the next 3 weeks or so to look forward to

Aw I'm sorry that you weren't able to find out this morning -- I'm sure that's a big disappointment but I'm glad you got to see your little one and that everything is okay! and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Thanks Shannon for remembering my anniversary. I'm looking forward to next one when I can actually spend it with my DH.
It was a tad disappointing this am. As soon as I got in the room, the sonographer said that she was not going to tell me the gender today and that I would need to come back (this appt was scheduled as a gender scan). She said this before even taking a look at the baby. Their website says they do gender u/s from 16 weeks and I clarified that when making the appt. I just had the feeling that she had made up her mind that she wasn't going to tell me before she started. Who knows? Maybe she wasn't very experienced? Ah well, it's not bad... especially since I get to see the baby again for free very soon!!!

aww.. Your baby is soooo adorable..
I'm sorry you couldn't find out the gender.. I can imagine how frustrating it is.. Wish me luck for Wednesday, that's when I have my gender U/S... Unfortunately, I can't drink anything sugary, just plan old water..

Aww sorry you couldn't find out the gender and yes at 16 weeks the genitals are fromed so maybe what she thought was the genital tubercle was actualy boys parts ??

Awww, what a cute little baby you have in there!!!
Sounds to me like she might have made up her mind beforehand too. Strange. I hope you find out at your next appointment!!

Helen, I'm thinking the same things. She did get the view in the end and we saw '2 lines', which equals boy in my book. I should have asked her how she can tell the difference between a genital tubercle and a penis.
Mellisa, I will be wishing you luck for Wednesday. I can't wait to see if Adriana is getting a little sister or a brother!

I think the difference is that with the genital tubercle there arn't testicles. i am still an advocate for not finding out till after 18 weeks, its just too risky finding out early, too many friends have had different genders than what their 14-17 week scan said. But Im really hoping its a boy!!

Sorry you couldn't find out! The same thing happened to me... At least you get to find out in 11 days. I still have 15 to go (and have already waited 15), so your wait isn't as bad.
Holy pictures, Batman! They sure hooked you up!
