Made my appointment today actually! Like I mentioned before... my insurance through my job was changing so the new one became effective today and I'd been waiting to make an appointment. For my annual doctor visits I've always just gone to my general practioner so I was going to have to find a new doctor anyway. I took the list the insurance company allowed and found a practice right up the road that is an all women's practice. The doctor went to Duke and from her little 'profile' seems nice -- I couldn't google a single bad review about her, and I read a TON of bad reviews about other doctors. haha. They deliver mainly at the hospital right up the road which is on the top 100 list for hospitals in the country. The appointment lady said they normally like to see people at 10 weeks, and asked if June 10th would work for my first appointment -- which is actually my birthday! I won't quite be ten weeks then though, but oh well. She said it'll last about two hours.
Have been having a lot of nauseous spells but haven't lost my cookies yet! The biggest problem I've been having is getting REALLY hot and REALLY dizzy where I feel like I'm going to pass out. My mom said she fainted a handful of times when she was pg with me... but she never really had morning sickness. I think it's kind of interesting how so far my experience has been similar. Also... I'll be totally fine, and then all of a sudden I'm hungry and if I don't eat something small within like 5 minutes I feel really bad. But mostly it's been okay... just tired all the time. I'm getting used to that though, I think. Sleeping much better than I was before too which is fantastic.
Mmmm I think that about covers everything. Thanks for checking on me... makes me feel loved

Your first OB appointment on your birthday! How wonderful!
That nausea is a killer, isn't it? I didn't puke until I was like 9 weeks, so you still have time.

The hot flashes and dizziness sound really sucky, but better sleep is a good trade off

Shannon, I was faint and dizzy my whole pregnancy. It was so bad that I would have to sit down all the time when I'd be out shopping, etc. Sometimes I'd even be sitting in church and feel like I was going to pass out so I'd have to lay on the floor!

Water and energy bars! It'll help! Your body is all outta whack trying to support the baby, so technically your baby is sucking the life outta you! (See they are little parasites! )
Try sucking sour candy for the sickness -- it helps a bit. Like apple jolly ranchers or something.
I didn't throw up until the first week of the 2nd trimester.... and then it only happened 4 times (each Monday morning) and it was over just like that!
Any thoughts to names or nursery ideas?

Church is the WORST! We're Catholic so there's a lot of standing/sitting/kneeling and singing or praying aloud the whole time and the last three times I've gone I've gotten sick. My mom thought I was for sure going to pass out last week... and the thing is, since my parents are like the only ones who know... my 95 y/o Granny is all concerned and keeps asking everyone why I'm sick. So I'm trying to play it totally cool and it's so not working when I run outta there in the middle and I'm like in the bathroom stall totally naked trying to cool off with my face pressed against the stall and eyes closed. Now THERE's a mental image for ya!

It's so special that your first OB appointment is on your birthday. I remember being hungry and it I did not eat RIGHT away I felt bad. I also got the dizzy spells at times.

Our girl name has been set in stone for years -- Lily Rose. My mom is Lillian and my grandma (my middle name as well) is Rose. I still think it's a gorgeous name but I love it a little less with it's growing popularity... but DH said there's no way he's changing, and I'm glad we at least agreed on something. Definitely no name for a boy yet as we have these stupid requirements we're supposedly following. It's first name has to start with a B and middle name has to start with an R. It's a long story, but it's pretty stupid and I have no intention of following that. DH can't come up with a single B boy name that either of us like... so I don't feel like we should 'settle' on something when weh ave 25 other letters of the alphabet we could be using. He's not worried about it bc he's SO convinced it's a girl he doesn't think we need a backup boy name. I'm trying to convince him that if he is SO positive it's a girl... to just let me name it if it's a boy haha.
Not even considering a nursery at this point -- we'll wait til we know the sex to start thinking about that.

Yay!! Your appointment is so soon!!
I was the same way with the dizzy spells and feeling like I would pass out if I didn't eat right away. Try to carry some cookies or granola bars at all times that you can inhale when you feel it coming on

That's so cool that your appointment is on your birthday!
The main challenge for me was being hungry/nauseous/tired ALL the time. The only thing that helped was eating a small snack even before I felt hunger beginning, eating only what appealed to me, and sleeping a lot.
The part about church made me
We definitely need a new belly picture!

Thanks for the update Shannon! I love the name Lily Rose. It is so elegant and perfectly fitted for your situation. BUT, I really do think you are having a boy What is your gut feeling?
