Kirsty has always gone to bed easily, always has her bath at 7pm, then a feed and down to bed in her cot. No fussing, no issues. By this time she is tired & wants bed.
about a month ago she started waking within an hour of going to bed - no stirring or moaning, just instant distressed crying. It settled down again for a few weeks but has started again this past week.
The last 2 nights it's happened 3 times within an hour, then she's fine but has woken much earlier for her feed (usually it's between 2 & 4am, the past 2 nights it's been 11pm). she feeds fine & goes back down fine.
When she wakes up, I have tried ignoring her to see if she resettles, I have tried placing my hand on her chest in the cot, and shushing, neither of these work. I have to pick her up, by the time she's at my shoulder she's almost fully asleep and I can put her down within a minute & she's sound asleep again.
Sorry this is long, I asked my health visitor who didn't have anything to offer - I wondered if any of you have experienced this? I'm wondering if her tummy is bothering her? She suffered with colic 3 weeks until about 2 or 3 weeks ago, but it never showed this sudden crying as a symptom previously.

Perhaps she's about to meet a mile stone? Sometimes their little heads are working over time putting things together and wakes them up and interrupts their schedules. Dustin has been doing some major growing and progressing he can sit up by himself for a short time, and he's getting great at his hand control, he's also finding his feet. All that mixed with the hot weather and things are a bit rocky. He's been getting up earlier for an extra feed as well which is sometimes a sign of being ready to start solids.. but we'll see if it actually continues or if he settles back down.
That's all i can really think of... just a possible explanation but no advice, sorry

Thanks Steph. I did start baby rice about 3 weeks ago, just a little before bed. But it hasn't made any difference to her sleeping so I plan to put a halt on it for now, just to see if stopping it makes any difference. I keep going back to thinking her tummy is bothering her. She's just produced the most horrible nappy so I think she may have been constipated a bit.
She's trying to pull her head up when sitting in her bouncy - like trying to sit up, and the past week she's been rolling onto one side then spinning around in a circle ( ) and also past few days discovered her feet. Maybe it's a combo of lots of things. It's so hard to tell.

I guess I kind of got the answers to my PM reply on what Kirsty's been doing.

Maybe she just just needs a mum check because she had a bad dream or had a moment of feeling alone and needs some reassurance your their for her?! (yeah sorry I'm grasping there but it kind of makes sense LOL)

I never found an answer for this other than patience. I think Angela might have it though. Gemma always wanted me to pick her up in the middle of the night and she wouldn't go back down until I held her. Now she's a very needy child in that she hates when no one is with her or paying attention to her. She's sort of a diva. Maybe Kirsty is the same way?

Since starting solids very closely coincided with this waking, I'd suggest stopping the solids. Only a small percentage of babies have a closed gut by 4 months, so the solids can cause tummy aches and increased risk of allergies. Most babies have a sealed gut by 6-7 months, try again then.

This was my gut instinct Jess, but it was occurring a few weeks ago before I introduced babyrice. So I'm unsure. I'm not giving any today so hopefully it'll make a difference tonight.

If thats your gut feeling---GO with it! It could have been a different reason last time----she only has one way to talk to you now, so it could be different now. But mum's gut instinct is usually correct!

She's got a rash on her torso tonight (it has progressed over the past day or 2 but got worse quickly today). She's been cranky today. I didn't give her babyrice tonight, but gave her Infacol all day today just like we used to, and I gave her a dose of pain meds before bed to see if it will help settle things.
This rash is concerning though - what do you girls think:
