How much did you have left in medical bills after insurance paid?

We still have about $1500 left to pay off. I'm guessing we had around $3,500-4,000 AFTER insurance. It was more expense because of my c/s/induction/epidural.

We've already paid for the OB portion of my care and delivery - that was about $1,000 after insurance. I pay $35 per visit to the specialist also but nothing more. I will probably have about $1,000 to pay after the baby is born for the hospital stuff. It's alot but its way better than it could be.

I guess my plan here works differently to yours. I paid all my expenses up front and then claimed back from the insurance. I never tallied all my costs but I did private care. I got back BD$3000 (US$1500) from the insurance. It really doesn't cover much but it was something. I thought that the my inurance coverage for maternity sucked.

I'm going to get stoned for saying this but, we only paid 6$ total. Here you only have to play a very small fee for staying in the hospital, everything else is taken care of.

I paid one $25 co-pay for the first visit, after that, there was no co-pay. For delivery, we onlyhad to pay $500 deductible. Everything else was paid for by insurance.

With Liam after all was said and done we ended up paying about $3500. And I had good insurance and had a medication and intervention free birth. Those little things add up! I think the big thing though was the $500 a day copay to be in the hospital. I had him on a Friday morning and was discharged on Sunday morning but I had to pay for 3 days since I was technically there 3 days even though they weren't full days.

With Lochy I had Medicaid so I paid nothing. If I had to pay out of pocket for the birth center the entire pregnancy, delivery, and post partum care would have cost me a little over $6,000. Huge difference from the hospital!

I think it's going to be around $1200. We still haven't gotten the bills for Matthew's pedi care, hearing test and all that jazz, so there may be more. We owed 20% of the hospital/delivery fees, but all the pregnancy OB visits were free after the first two I think.

We were expecting it to be $3,000- that is our yearly out of pocket max, and since I had a 30% co-pay for labor & Delivery, I expected to max that out.

However, when I got the bill, it was only $500 I don't know why or how, but I'll take it. It showed that my insurance paid everything else.

Ugh! It ticks me off that we have to pay so much. We have "good" insurance too.

Are total prenatal/labor/postpartum/newborn care for 6 weeks after (assuming homebirth goes fine and no hospital transfer) will cost us $400...which we have to pay by July 1st. If we end up in the hospital its still not much ...just a couple more hundred.

Since we work for the state we have really good insurance for maternity care (but it's really horrible insurance for a lot of other things and I've had to go through some serious headaches over the years, so don't go drooling over my insurance just yet). Anyway, I had to pay a $50 co-pay for all of my prenatal visits and will have to pay $250 for my hospital stay regardless of what I have done at the hospital (epi, no epi, c-section, etc. etc. etc.). Plus I get a free boppy pillow. That thrills me way more than it probably should. heh.

I had private insurance for just me when I had Lily and I ended up paying $500-ish. This time around we had Lee's government insurance and we didn't pay anything. Although the hospital is still trying to charge me for my imaginary epidural.

0 (Medicaid, dh's work insurance isn't affordable for us)

I belive its a $5000 deductible for families is what dh was saying then they only covered at most 80% of maternity care(possibly less I forget now)

And being high risk theres no way we could afford that. I was at the doctor twice a week from 34weeks on. Weekly from around 32weeks. I had an u/s every week from 34weeks on(with Kieran, pretty similar with Seamus too) plus my medication for the GD, all the NST's I had. Then with Seamus I was in the hospital from Monday till Thursday, then a boarding parent Thursday night till Friday night, Seamus born late Tuesday night didn't get released till 6pm Friday night.

And the c-section with Kieran would be out the bum, I was only there just over 48hrs after she was born but the c-section alone would have been costly.

I think we paid around $5,000 for all of my hospital and prenatal care combined, this is including Adriana's hospital care and lab tests.. Adriana's bills alone was $1,000.. I was high risk and I had a 3 day stay in the hospital, 2 days in L&D and 1 day in Post Partum.. This is also including my Endo visits, which were $40 a visit and all of my NST's which was around $300. OB visits were $600 and my medicine ran about $90 a month, with insulin and prentatal pills (I was on primacare). Insurance covered most of it.. Sounds like a lot of money.. But my work gives each employee $750 in our medical bank every year and my deductible is $2000. Most of it was paid by my work. And my insurance is free.. It all equals out in the end..

DH and I have new insurance through his work and from what I have researched it is awesome insurance! We will only have to pay like $250 and everything else is covered! His insurance also covers infertility treatments if that is ever necessary!
