Our bunny past away in the night. We didn't even notice until about an hour ago. Edward actually noticed first. I had to take him upstairs and put the TV on so he didn't see Chris take her body out and take her cage down. I swear I saw her moving around today. We have all this food for her and we still have bedding. I called my grandmother and she just said "well, it's only a bunny." No, it's not only a bunny. She was Edward pet. Edward actually fed her. We just told him that she had to go to Heaven. Even our dog whined and sniffed around for her.

He hasn't said anything yet. After Chris took her body out and put her cage in storage, we went to the store (more for me to clear my head) and Edward didn't say anything about her cage being gone, but he acted out in the store. And he never does that, so I think that was his way of dealing with it. I know that he knows something happened because he's extremely preceptive for a boy who is almost 4 years old. He understands things a little better than I'd like, but he's just that smart, and I'm happy and worried that he understands things so much. I'm sure there will be more questions tomorrow or in the coming days.

That is so sad - I'm really sorry for your lose. Pets are so much more than just 'pets'. They are a part of the family and there is always a big hole to try and fill once they are gone. BIG HUGS to you and Edward.

I'm so sorry! But I think children understand more than we give them credit. I personally wouldn't act as if nothing happened, but involve your son in the process and have a funeral ceremony, etc.
